Remarkableriots
Hacker behind GTA 6 leak will be confined to "a secure hospital for life" due to his "intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible" | GamesRadar+ WWW.GAMESRADAR.COM Rockstar says the leak cost it $5 million Quote The 18-year-old hacker charged with breaking into Rockstar's data and leaking at least 90 videos worth of GTA 6 development materials has been sentenced by a UK court to indefinite life in a hospital prison. The BBC reports that Arion Kurtaj, who's described as acutely autistic, "will remain at a secure hospital for life unless doctors deem him no longer a danger." This is notably distinct from a sentence of life in prison – which doesn't always run until the actual end of one's life, either – but his sentence is still effectively indefinite. A mental health assessment noted that he "continued to express the intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible. He is highly motivated."
Xbob42
Seems a bit excessive for what amounts to "showed video of a video game too early." Definitely a gamer, though: Quote The BBC reports that Arion Kurtaj, who's described as acutely autistic
LazyPiranha
The sentence has less to do with the crime itself which goes beyond simple leaks because he did try to extort them, but because of him being tried in relation to his mental condition. If you’ve got a guy who is, in open court, proudly claiming they not only will go back to crime but wants to do it as soon as possible, then what other choice do you have? A regular prison stint won’t help this kid at all, he needs professional medical help until he’s deemed to not be a danger.
AbsolutSurgen
He hacked the GTAVI data using a firestick, because he didn't have access to a PC.

SoberChef
I wonder who's worse off, this kid or the one behind the Insomniac leak?

AbsolutSurgen
He wasn’t found guilty of the crime. He was sent to the modern equivalent of a lunatic asylum.
