Dollar stores

I was just talking with my girlfriend about these dollar stores over the weekend. I've never been to one, even though there's a Dollar Tree in town not far from me. A quick look on Google Maps makes it seem like a normal store, no photos of it trashed or anything like that. Then again, I don't live in an economically depressed area. Its right next to a McAlister's and a Helzberg Diamonds.

I pretty much only ever go into one when I'm visiting family because they live in rural areas and even then, I try to go elsewhere when possible. They're not as junky as some of the stores that were shown in the video, but they aren't great.

 Never go into them. The lowest I’ll go in retail is Wal-Mart.

My dad would go there all the time. But every time I looked at the food I would have to tell him, "bruh this expires in a week"

 

Good for getting greeting cards or non food stuff though I guess.

I like going to the dollar stores as you can often find junk food that has fallen out of popularity but I still want them. Only place around here that has carried both Hot Cheese Popcorn and Hershey's cookies and cream milkshakes.

I don't think I've been in one since the Wii was new, and only because it was the only place to grab a drink near where I was. Lower cost never really is a better value. If you look at what you pay per unit a Dollar store is almost always way over priced compared to a grocery store.

I like going to the dollar store for gift bags and greeting cards.

There's a dollar store near here that I only go to when I'm going to the movie theater nearby because I can grab a thing of candy for a buck rather than pay $9.00 for a pack of Twizzlers at the theater.

Also, can we speak about the term "food desert" (as well as "news deserts") because these terms didn't even exist 20 years ago, yet here we are.
