NJ nursing home closes and evicts 72 residents with 12 hours notice

Recommended Posts

I don’t know enough about state regulations for this sort of thing, or why they would know on such short notice.  If this place stopped paying people three weeks ago and is shutting down now, that’s a pretty brief window.  If you run a place like this do you have to show the state that you have X number of weeks/months ready to go at any given moment?

Why doesn't the state just take it over and run it as a government care home? Or do those not exist in NJ? Something similar happened in my province during the pandemic, with a private company doing a very shitty job protecting the residents (like 50% died of COVID, they weren't letting staff take sick days, etc). So the government just passed a bill and appropriated the facility, and now it's part of the public care home system.
