Beat it with all challenges complete. Good ending and a decent last boss that isn’t nearly as annoying as normal for Sonic!

 

So far my runner up to Elden Ring this year. Its crazy how much better than BOTW it is. Solid 9/10 for me.

 

Definitely the best 3D Sonic game, maybe the best Sonic game period unless I can count Sonic 3 and Knuckles and then it’s close. Mania is also probably close and probably a better designed game but it’s never as much fun as this almost always is.

Wyvern on the 2nd island!!! I keep missing when to parry. Extremely frustrating because I spent almost 2 hours on him this morning. 

 

I was all ready to hit the 3rd island but I guess I'm not going anywhere.

This got me too, definitely the worst part of the game, but the trick is that you don’t need to time the parry really. Don’t try to parry at the same time, just hold down lb/rb for seconds at a time until he strikes then just hold them down again until he strikes again etc. Then there is an annoying part right when you almost beat him that’s hard to see what to do even, but it’s just the same as the fishing mini game, hitting the button when the circles line up.

Ok, thanks. I was hoping I wasn't that bad at videogames so I feel better you struggled too.

I complained about it earlier in this thread it’s the total classic bad Sonic boss design where it makes you use a mechanic you never use the rest of the game, gives you two seconds to figure out what you need to do, and then makes you do the whole fight over it you fail. Luckily unlike other Sonic games other bosses don’t surprise you again with a different type of qte (a couple repeat the same two mechanics but you’ll have them learned from here) so it was back to them being enjoyable after including the end boss.

@stepee thanks to your advice, holding down the parry buttons made the fight a literal joke lol. It took me 3 minutes to beat him.

 

Then I spent 2 hours straight on the 3rd island. Already made massive progress. They change things up just enough to keep the game fresh and fun. It's my top 5 games this year easily.

I have the 3rd island basically finished but have no idea how to get to the 2 Islands in the world. 2 chaos emeralds need collected. I'll search I guess. Ruined the momentum I had going.

Found a way on the islands. I'm wrapping up this island tomorrow. Still one of the most fun games I've played in a really long time. 

 

@stepee Is the 4th island as expansive as the first 3?

This morning I reached a bitch of an island to get a chaos emerald but I was running really late for work. So I couldn't save in this particular section and it loaded me way back. I was pissed!

I think the ones that seem hard to get to you just kind of have to wrap around on the sides across the whole island. Are you still on the third world or the fourth?

3rd and you're correct, you must circle around to get to the correct access point to travel to the isolated island. It was just difficult for me to find the specific area to cross over. I'll get it tomorrow so it's no big deal. After 16 hours the game is still a blast.

I spent like 40 on it :P But half of that is probably mindlessly just grinding around

I'm not giving up on this and will definitely beat it. It's such a great game to go along with the other major titles I'm playing.

I don’t think you are far from the end, it’s probably about a 20 hour game unless you go crazy with it.

I'm very close to beating the 3rd island. I'll beat it within a few days.

Finally sinking my teeth into this one a bit. Thank you so much @Commissar SFLUFAN

 

I love running around the island and unlocking the map, but don't have much idea what I'm doing. Giving Hearts to Amy, Seeds to some weird rock creature, collecting creatures to give to some other rock creature. I am starting to get used to the controls and whatnot, but still having trouble with some of the big bosses. I'm sure I'll figure it all out because it is quite the fun experience!

There is a part in the beginning where you are where it’s pretty weird because the goal is to collect the tokens and give to Amy several times in a row. Later the gameplay loop flows better. But while it’s telling you to do that, that is indeed the goal and you aren’t doing anything wrong. Just run around and have fun and collect stuff! 

 

You will then have to learn the bosses as beating those to get gears to open up the cyber levels is the next part. They are all pretty easy to take down though once you get used to the loop mechanic (circling around enemy’s to damage/stun them).

 

The main bosses you fight after getting enough keys to get the chaos emeralds are harder but the main thing to keep in mind with them is there is no parry timing in this game. Don’t try to ever parry at the same time or an attack, hold down block until they attack instead.

 

This is the core of the game though:

 

Tokens to help save friend

Mini bosses to get gears that open levels

Beat the levels and challenges to get keys to unlock chaos emeralds 

Use chaos emeralds to unlock main island boss

Beat boss go to next level

 

It never really makes that totally clear but you’ll settle into it!

Pumped for this. Ammmmyyyyy Glad we finally have a date, I thought this was going to be earlier in summer.

 

Though I will say, even darker edgier Sonic is not where I want to see them headed with the next one, so hope this isn’t a sign of the direction. I want this formula (with improvements and more to do) but whimsy Sonic. I want the open world parts to actually be Green Hill, Casino zone, Snow zone like Sonic 3 with snowboard etc. The style of the classics but in 3D. Not the more realistic mature Sonic stuff
