  1. 1) This is a thread about PS5 -- Nvidia's GPUs have dedicated RT/tensor cores, Sony consoles don't. 2) AMD GPUs struggle at Ray Tracing (because of their lack of dedicated RT/tensor cores), Sony/MS talking about ray tracing is more about marketing blogs and very limited implementations than actual meat. 3) Consoles have an obscenely low amount of memory and a relatively incapable GPU. Continually improving those is what is important to push gaming forward.
  2. Here is a very simplistic definition: Woke is broadly refers to a group that is different than how it was originally used by black activists. In general, it refers to the belief that our identity and membership of different marginalized groups (or oppressor groups) is more important than who people are as individuals. This is combines with the belief equity in outcomes is more important than equality of opportunity and that present day discrimination in favour of those historically marginalized groups is the best (or only) way to make up for historical oppression to achieve equity in outcomes.
  3. Nintendo is targeting a different customer than Sony. Mid-gen refreshes keep revenue high, and avoids losing customers if MS decides to do one.
  4. Not everyone cares about graphics, but a lot of people do. The sales successes of mid-cycle refreshes of last gen, and the pandemic-era computer GPU prices proved that.
  5. If he plays like he did in 2020, it's a good pickup. The problem is, even when he played in '21/'22, he's had 2-3 games worth talking about (when healthy). And, he is a liabillity in the run game. IMHO, I wish the Raiders had traded him last year (when he had more value), rather than waiting until this year.
  6. Perhaps, if consoles had more powerful hardware, the current crop of games could run at those specs.
  7. What % of AAA PS5 games are managing 4k/60fps with their highest graphics settings?
  8. You don't make a change like that mid-gen. If Nvidia is in a position to make an x86 APU, Sony could consider them. Are they?
  9. The gutting of the Raiders roster continues -- I am assuming Hunter Renfrow will be gone before Friday.
  10. Put "better graphics" on the box, and people will buy it.
  11. Mid-generational leaps are now the norm, it's less a question of "if" than "when". They've probably been working on this since the PS5 launched.
  12. I'm really happy with the tradeoff of pixel density/performance on a 1440p display at 27" (roughly equivalent to 34" Ultrawide).
  13. I target every 3-4 years, but this time I went 6.5.
  14. The issue is less with how long this rig will last, versus how long the other one will. (I went longer than I normally do before building this one because of pandemic pricing.) When you have 4 gamers in the house, you need multiple place for people to play.
  15. I understand the value of high frame-rate gaming in certain situations -- I could see the difference in my lap-times in Forza when playing at 60 fps on console vs. 90-100 on the computer. But, personally, for most games, I don't consciously perceive a huge difference above 60 fps. So, I won't pay a huge premium for a super-fast CPU. I actually went more extreme than what you are suggesting, I spent about triple on my GPU (4080) vs. my CPU (i7-13700KF). While I would like to think I will upgrade my current rig, more realistically I will pass it down as the next "kid's computer" in my house in a couple of years and build something new. (Not that it isn't used extensively by the kids, but my son now calls my old rig "his computer".)
  16. I didn't get one of those, I bought a i7-13700kf for C$520 or ~US$385. I don't feel I need a faster/more powerful CPU than that, but understand why others might.
  17. I bought a bunch of stuff from them when I was in Michigan. [Back in Canada, we have two big chains that sell computer parts -- Memory Express and Canada Computers that are very similar.] CC normally doesn't offer to take backorders, but they are on this part for some reason. No big retail computer parts stores in Cali?
  18. Retail price in the US is $699 -- isn't that what Microcenter sells it for?

  20. Most of the OLED's I've seen that are 16:9 are 27" or 48" ratio. If you're looking at 32", you're pretty much locked into an LCD.
