  1. Season's started. Sand Land is pretty great. I haven't caught up to the new content quite yet, but I'm really looking forward to whatever Toriyama had in mind for Sand Land beyond what he included in his manga way back in 99. Wind Breaker is pretty fun. Cloverworks really can animate a fight scene. I liked the first episode. I'm always down for high school kids with hearts of gold beating the shit out of each other. HiDive really fucked up with Jellyfish Can't Swim at Night. First episode came out today and they released it with no subtitles until very late tonight. By that point, I had already watched a sea-side broadcast. This feels like a pretty run of the mill music anime, only it's so pretty. Just all around lovely directing and animation. Way better than what you'd expect for a music anime that isn't Bocchi the Rock.

  5. The reporting on this story has been really bad. Those Amazon Go-sized shops are using their shopper tracking AI thing just fine and that product is live and being shopped to other convenience stores and airports around the world. Seems Amazon has been unsuccessful at scaling that up to a full size grocery store where someone might purchase dozens or even over a hundred items. They've had a team of people in India doing some QA to make sure the AI is getting things right and found that 70% of the time the AI loses track of items and needs a human review to go in and double-check the numbers. Amazon was shooting for a 90% accuracy rate and couldn't get it past 30% after a couple of years, so they're scrapping the grocery-scale project and sticking with the Amazon Go-sized project. I've read some awful headlines about how Amazon's AI was really just a thousand people in India, but that's really not what's going on here.
  6. I find the motion controls on the Dual Sense to be good enough I don't really need to rely on concentration to hit anything. I really only use it for the extra zoom on the instances where I literally can barely see the target. I should note, I think the haptics in this game are just ok. Sometimes they're good, but it's not the best I've felt on a PC title. Like, I thought Seasons A Letter to the Future handled the trigger haptics a lot better.
  7. I thought about playing with mouse and keyboard, but this game really feels like a controller game. I'm playing with a Dual Sense. It does, unfortunately, need to be wired to get all the benefits the Sony controller offers, but I'm fine with that. Aiming is easy enough with motion controls being there to assist on the time tweak side of things. I'm having no problem taking out entire outposts with headshots from as far away as my sharpshot bow will let me.
  8. Seems the issue of scale. That is, their AI having trouble with larger, complicated purchases with multiples of multiple items. Smaller purchases were fine, larger ones weren't as accurate. Amazon seems to still be using the tech in their smaller convenience stores with greater luck/accuracy.

  10. Remember that poor girl that was kidnapped by her dad and then shot by police who claimed she was rushing them? Well, they were finally forced to release footage of the event. It's all bullshit. One cop gave her the order to walk toward them and every other cop near him just opened fired. He tried to get his buddies to stop shooting, but it was too late. I'm sure nobody will be held responsible and there also aren't even any living parents left to sue the city/department.

  12. I think Nintendo works on new IP more than people might give them credit for. Sometimes it's for new things that aren't very successful, but they should get some credit for trying. Game Builder Garage, Ring Fit Adventure, 1-2 Switch, and Labo should count as new IP even they aren't all very traditional games. Nintendo sometimes gets labeled as relying too much on their existing IP, but I think that's because the weird stuff they do sometimes gets forgotten. Nintendo also does this thing where they reach out to third party devs asking for help coming up with new game ideas, like when they reached out to Platinum for a hard game and got Astral Chain or Ruby Party for a new visual novel and got that Buddy game that never made it to the US.
  13. Someone who better understands the TSE and Nikkei, please chime in, because I have wondered if Nintendo not being listed on the NYSE gives them a bit more freedom to be try for more long term and sustainable practices over the more infinite growth and short term success Sony and Microsoft are trapped in.

  16. Might be better to say it didn't move the needle as well as their free games did. Exclusives might have helped smaller studios, but it also pissed off a bunch of gamers who don't like splitting their PC game collection across multiple launchers. Compare that to their free games that are fairly inexpensive to acquire, seem to have a good track record for pulling in customers, and are enjoyed even by the most curmudgeon of gamers.

  19. Dandadan is my most looked forward to anime this year. Science Saru is also a phenomenal choice for studio. We've still got to get through the whole spring and summer seasons, though. There are a bunch of anime returning for new seasons this spring. You've got the third season of Reincarnated as a Slime, The Irregulare at Magic High School, Sound Euphonium, and Konusuba. The second season of Tsukimichi. Another season of Demon Slayer, One Piece, My Hero Academia. Those are all mostly eh for me. I might catch an episode here and there to relive a part of the manga I really enjoyed, but that's about it. I think the biggest hit this season will probably be Kaiju No. 8, assuming it's a good adaptation. It does have some real talent working behind the scenes, so I'm hopeful it'll be good. I also think Viral Hit could be a nice sleeper. The first few arcs of that manhwa are so much fun. If the anime can translate that onto the screen, we'll be in for a good time.
  20. You might be thinking about Bulla, Vegeta's daughter, who was a baby in the DBS Broly movie. I don't remember if Goku met Bulla, but her debut was definitely there. That much I remember because until then Bulla was always older than Pan thanks to DBGT, but DBS swapped them around and made Pan the older of the two girls.
  21. No, she wasn't born yet. During that fight with Beerus they needed to perform the God ritual, but they were one Saiyan short until Videl announced that she was pregnant with Pan. Fast forward to now and Goku barely remembers any of that.
  22. Dragon Ball Super is a monthly series and this chapter came out last week with the magazine probably going to print a couple of weeks before then, so I'm going to assume this chapter was worked on a couple of months ago. Toyotarou, himself, confirmed it on Twitter. This was his original storyboard... And these are the changes Toriyama made... Toriyama was absolutely correct in his choice here. Having the chapter end with five panels of the characters' backs is off putting. Having Piccolo turn back before the camera then also turns back to end on the faces of Piccolo and Pan's teacher flows way better. Toriyama has always done a great job with framing and the flow of action from panel to panel and this is a perfect example of it.
  23. Well, fuck. Toyotarou has confirmed that the last thing Toriyama ever did for the Dragon Ball manga was suggest adding Piccolo waving goodbye in the second to last panel here. This entire sequence of Goku finally meeting Pan was already quite lovely without knowing it was Toriyama's final addition with his all time favorite Dragon Ball character.
