Eh, the barrier for games these days is pretty damn low. Everything is available digitally. I'm not even sure games could really be any cheaper these day. Nintendo has somehow managed to not need any major layoffs unlike the rest of the industry. Would it be nice if Nintendo had their own Gamepass like subscription? Maybe? I'm not really sure I really want another subscription service in my life. However, I have already given Nintendo $100 this year between Another Code and Princess Peach Showtime. More than just regular piracy, Nintendo seems to be upset over folks playing leaked versions of unreleased games. They claim a million gamers were playing the TotK on Yuzu before the game's release. No clue where they pulled that number, though.

I mean, my kids all have tablets and phones. My son has his own gaming PC in his room with a big old 55" 4k TV and a Gamepass subscription. However, still, for some wild reason, my kids still want to play on the Switch. They've logged like 200 hours in Goat Simulator on Switch even though Goat Simulator 3 is right there on Gamepass, installed and looking better than ever. A part of me does wonder if PCs will really be the end all here. Every year I hear about more and more kids that can barely navigate a file explorer because they're so used to Android and iOS/ipadOS on their phones and tablets along with Chrome OS on their laptops at school. I don't know if there's really any evidence that nobody wants console anymore. Pretty sure Nintendo has sold more Switches last year than the entire handheld gaming PC market. Valve's Steam Deck is the best selling of them all and they've pushed like what? 2-3m units since 2022?

I think this is really what it comes down to, so not as black and white as other emulators. People are paying, specifically, for access to support for games that very recently came out. Nintendo hasn't really gone after, like, Dolphin, but Dolphin also isn't charging. It would be interesting because, like, Bleem never actually lost in court.

3-4 hours? I'm sure if you just rush through the game without actually reading through letters or skipping your maid duties, you can finish it that fast. I mean, you don't HAVE to read all the text the game throws at you. You can just prod the lead character for hints on where to look next. What's the point of even playing a story-heavy mystery noir game where 70% of the plot is told through the letters and the luggage you snoop through? Steam says I have 9.5 hours in the game. I'm sure like half an hour of that is the pause screen.

We all are in agreement that return to office was always more about the tanking commercial real estate market than actual productivity, right?

Yeah, I beat it in like 8 or 9 hours. Also, depending on how you play it, getting all the endings can be as easy as rewinding back to a save only 15 minutes before the end of the game.

After giving up on Pacific Drive, I found myself in the mood for a nice mystery so I picked up This Bed We Made. I quite liked it. I enjoyed the vibe and the game doesn't overstay its welcome. I can go for another sub-10hr chill mystery game.

Devs have already been fighting gamers about this since the open beta. They claim it's impossible to do...doubt. I very rarely pay attention to pre-release game drama, so I missed this but of news. Here's holding out how they cave or someone mods it in. Thing is, this game is, otherwise, very gamer friendly. There's are countless difficulty toggles. You can disable damage to either you or your car. You can set it so you keep everything after death. You can disable death. You can set your car to not need gas. There are so many things you can do to make the game less stressful. Being stubborn on this one thing is wild.

That's all I ask the Pacific Drive devs add. I don't need anything more than that.

Didn't Returnal later add a Save on Exit? That's all I want. I just want to be able to hibernate the game and come back later without leaving my PC on for days at a time.

Dammit. I really enjoyed the first couple of hours of this game. The game, however, feels out of reach for me. It's just me and the kids and this game has no mid-mission saving. Child wakes up in the middle of the night, would be nice to be able to temp save and resume so I don't have to lose the last hour of gameplay. I get that the devs don't want players to save scum this game, but there's nothing wrong with temp saves that disappear when you later resume the game. What sucks is that there's no real way to know how long an excursion will last, so I can't really tell myself "I have two hours to game tonight". Remember way back in the day when games didn't have saves and you'd have to bribe your younger brother to leave the NES on pause while you were at school? That's how this game makes me feel and I'm not paying for the electricity of a gaming PC on for 24hr straight because I want to pick up and resume this game after the kids go to bed tomorrow. Rant over. Other than the saving mechanic, I really do like the game. I am very much appreciative that this isn't another zombie or whatever survival horror. The atmosphere, alone, is good enough. I can easily see how playing a bunch of this game will get you really attached to your wagon I won't refund it. Maybe the devs will cave and give us a temp save or someone will mod it in.
