I think the argument would be that they provide good outcomes for the corporations, and therefore society since corporations employ people, make money, etc. It's a total bullshit argument, of course. It's like asking how billionaires benefit society. They don't, but they're rich so they get their way.

So, obviously this is bad, but it's made 10x worse because of the INCREDIBLY FUCKING DUMB RULES/TRADITION of giving senior members the top positions. Why should the senior ranking Democrat be in charge of judicial appointments? Why not a person with the most experience in the area? I swear, the US system is such a joke. In Canada we have the opposite problem (if it's a problem), where the "boys in short pants" are derided by Members of Parliament for basically running the Prime Minister's Office and ordering them around on votes. The "boys" in this case are usually people in their 20s and 30s who run the PMO and have the energy and gumption to get things done. Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau both have this policy, of staffing their office with younger people who then take charge and effectively run the PMO and set policy.

It also looks like Canada is going to be supplying a huge number of vaccines to poor nations. From my understanding, the government has ordered something like 550 million doses, but we only need around 70 million, and the rest will be diverted to other nations. A poll was just done in Canada and a huge majority approved of the effort, too.

The other big news in Canada about the vaccines was that Trump is insisting that anything made in the US go to Americans, regardless of priority contracts (which he failed to procure, of course). Someone asked the Canadian government if that jeopardizes our supply...and they said they made sure to source our doses from European suppliers. So basically, Canada anticipated the US trying to fuck everyone over again (like they did with stealing ventilator shipments last spring).

Right, as I understand it, if you could theoretically just build a human brain (in the same shape, layout, etc) with electronic-equivalent components, it could function the same way. So if that is the case, then obviously it would make sense that a machine could be sentient in the same way with different designs that are more efficient. Evolution is a fantastic best-route finder, but it's not perfect.

Television Letterkenny: Season 12 (The Final Season)

Have you checked out Kim's Convenience on Netflix? Another great Canadian weird-humour show (about a Korean immigrant family living in Toronto). You'll recognize the titular character (Mr. Kim) as one of the X-Wing officers in Mandalorian, lol. Schitt's Creek is obviously the other major Canadian comedy that is popular right now. I wasn't a huge fan of the first season when it came out...but man did it grow on me. It deserved its sweep of the Emmy's this year.
