  1. I mean, it's never been tested. In the case of the draft dodgers, it was for a specific crime so it makes sense that it would stand up. Even for a general category like "I pardon Jason for crimes related to theft," it seems logical (without listing the specific offense). But just blanket pardoning for any potential crimes, while possibly legal and constitutional, doesn't make sense to me. I mean, the entire idea of royal pardons (which is what this is) is ridiculous.
  2. In Canada, Trudeau mentioned that while Canada had many orders in with different vaccine suppliers, countries that manufacture the vaccine will likely get quicker access (by diverting initial batches internally). The Conservatives (and conservative Premiers) have twisted this into "Why is Canada at the back of the line for vaccines? Don't these companies know who we are?!" Canada is firmly a lower-middle power. While we punch above our weight financially due to being a developed first world nation, we are still small. We have no internal vaccine research or manufacturing industry So why would we be the first? Having said that, Moderna has since come out and said (likely at the behest of the government) that Canada will be getting some of the first batch due to placing one of the first pre-orders. So likely the US, UK, and Germany will have initial doses in December, and Canada will get some in January. It's crazy how every single thing about this is being politicized. What makes me the most upset is that the Premiers are in charge of handling the pandemic (and are failing), but the federal government is the one bailing them all out (through stimulus, emergency relief for workers, etc), and now they just complain. You are saving us but only at 98% efficiency, we need 100% or otherwise you are a failure, why do you hate Canada, Mister Prime Minister?
  3. Not that I think this will land on Trump, but it would be delicious if the thing that got him nailed was trying to help others not get nailed.
  4. Why are discussing the news about pardon bribery in the Presidential election thread instead of the pardon thread? Lol. Also I made a new post about it anyway. We need to ditch this mega thread!
  5. Honestly...yeah, fuck'em. Almost nothing is worth making millions per year (except making someone else more, which is why people are paid that much). But in terms of actual value, almost anyone in any job (including athletes) can be replaced by someone else, it's not like the majority of rich people are actually better at what they do than other people who aren't rich.
  6. And if someone is making $10 million in wages, they are at the very high end. That's $250,000/yr for 40 years.
  7. It seems the fairly standard definitions are: Silent: 1928-1945 Boomer: 1946-1964 Gen X: 1965-1980 Millennial: 1981-1996 Zoomer: 1997-Present (2022?)
  8. I was curious about the breakdown of the Canadian Parliament, so did some tabulation using some publicly available information. Same colours as the chart above: So it appears that Gen X is firmly in charge of Canada, now, combining with Millennials to make up the majority. Interestingly, there is one Zoomer in Parliament, elected in 2019 in Quebec (20 years old).
  9. Indeed, the greatest thing (and only acceptable thing) a rich person can morally do with their money (which is all immorally earned) is spend it as quickly as possible.
  10. Oh man what do you even think the conspiracy theories about this are going to be?
  11. It does suck for Americans, but the solution is to have American governments enact national drug negotiations, not allow others to do it and then try and take the drugs (thus depriving them from the other country's people).
  12. Canada blocks bulk exports of some prescription drugs in response to Trump import plan | Reuters WWW.REUTERS.COM Canada on Saturday blocked bulk exports of prescription drugs if they would create a shortage at home, in response to outgoing U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts to allow... Canada has the balls to negotiate for these drugs on a national scale, and the US wants to then just take the drugs rather than force the drug companies to lower prices. Both Trump and Biden supported this hack job of a drug price fix.
  13. He's a guy with good beliefs (in general) who has completely amateurish political instincts.
  14. Trump declares Twitter national security threat after #DiaperDon trends following meltdown WWW.INDEPENDENT.CO.UK US president demands fundamental change to internet in angry late-night tweets
  15. Oh shit, Trump just proved that there is no way Biden could have got 80,000,000 votes: He's a little off, since Biden's YouTube page actually got 80,000 views...but Biden's twitter videos each got 1 million+.
