  1. Imagine having to poop so bad that you shatter your windshield on a warning arm.
  2. Check out this year's designs: Canada (says Tokyo on the back, not Toxic) - Trying too hard to seem cool: US - trying too hard to look like villains from a 90s sports movie: Countries really need to stop hiring the people they hire.
  3. Man, another Moderna shipment to Canada has been delayed again. Has Moderna met a single production target? Pfizer is the only one here that is consistent and on-time (in fact, they've actually made early shipments). Pfizer is the true champ of the vaccine competition.
  4. If you added "also, the bill would allow the public beheading of a random millionaire CEO" to any survey, it would probably get a boost.
  5. The madmen did it. $500,000 Confederate chair stolen from Alabama cemetery used as toilet, will be returned tonight WWW.AL.COM “This is getting stranger and stranger," the district attorney said. “Hopefully they will clean and sanitize it before they return it.” But as predicted, some have been arrested: 2 arrested in NOLA had no role in Confederate chair theft from Alabama, lawyer says ABC3340.COM NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A lawyer for of the two people arrested on charges of possessing a stolen Confederate monument that was taken from an Alabama cemetery said the pair had nothing to do with the theft of the artifact, calling it a misunderstanding. The chair-shaped monument was recovered in New Orleans after it was removed from a cemetery in Selma, Alabama.
  6. Do they cast a new ship off by smacking a butt against it, rather than a bottle?
  7. I was just hypothesizing that it's possible that other adenoviral vaccines could cause something similar but we haven't noticed due to less-intense rollouts. But it's looking more like there is something unique about these ones (which would make sense as they are different than previous adenoviral vaccines).
  8. Exactly. In any sport where the only difference is practice (in other words, games of the mind), the main obstacle for women is that there often isn't the same infrastructure in place to develop players. However, I believe that would be the case if you merged all people into mixed leagues. Perhaps sbl's suggestion of placing new limiting rules would fix this (though that could cause issues in many sports where the raw athleticism is encouraged/celebrated), but my worry would be that if you mix leagues and you end up with a 99:1 ratio of men to women, then you're going to see the disappearance of many women from the lower levels of play, as well. We already see that today, where boys enter many sports at a huge ratio compared to girls, simply because there is the "dream" of going pro one day (where the equivalent league for women isn't as developed or celebrated). I think that mixing leagues would only make it worse, assuming you kept the same rules. I think that you could modify the rules of some sports, but I'm not sure if you could do it well for all sports. For instance, how could you modify American football to approach having half of players be women (and compete on the same level)? Maybe if you eliminated tackling altogether, as well as linebackers (so make it more like flag football, no contact allowed). Even then, men run so much faster than women that it would still be almost impossible for women to excel.
  9. The US women's team practices against high school and college-level men's teams with equal results. I am not aware of matches against professional men's teams, though. EDIT - Also, though I do believe that some sports will never be able to be fully mixed in a meaningful way (at least with current rules and goals for performance), I do believe that they should all be open to women entering men's leagues.
  10. I'm not disagreeing that some of the absolute best female players could compete in professional male leagues. It would simply be a very small number. In some sports like American football, you might see a few female kickers, for example. In other sports you might see a few more. But it would never be enough to justify only having mixed leagues.
  11. It's not just size, though, it's muscle density, center of gravity, and fat percentage. Men (biologically) are simply stronger and faster than women by a decently large amount. Even look at soccer, which is not dominated by giant players—the US women's team, which is the best in the world, is typically on the same level as high-level boy's high school teams. The only time when there wouldn't be a large difference is when the sport doesn't involve much physical movement or rely on muscles much. Otherwise, men will always dominate in a mixed sport. You might get the top 0.1% of women who can compete with the lower levels of the top % of men, but it's rare, and wouldn't result in a balanced sport of almost any kind.
  12. Federal government, Air Canada reach deal on relief package that includes customer refunds | CBC News WWW.CBC.CA The federal government has reached an agreement with Air Canada that will provide the pandemic-battered airline with financial support — while committing the airline to refunding customers who saw their flights cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Seems pretty reasonable for a corporate bailout. They need to pay it back (much will likely be waived over time), customers get refunds instead of the existing credit/coupons, and the airline can't give the money out as executive compensation or dividends. Also forces the company to re-open their shuttered low-use air routes that they've closed in the last year.
  13. I don't know anything about this woman. But, like, where are the articles like "GOP Senator owns three million-dollar mansions and owns $25 million in stock. Can he be trusted to do what's best for average people?" It's only when richer people help normal people (especially poorer people) that their motivations are questioned. Especially if those richer people are women or people of colour.
  14. Yeah, the people complaining about the probability are likely people who have never had to deal with major medical treatment before. Lucky them!
  15. I mean, "pretty bad" in this case is 1 in 200,000. I'd be curious to know what other factors are involved, as well, in the Adenovirus vaccines. In Canada, more than 500,000 AZ doses have been given out, and there hasn't been a case of blood clot yet
  16. Damn, @silentbob, I didn't know you were taking a cross-Canada trip 4,000 pounds of cannabis seized in commercial traffic stop in Saskatchewan - StratCann STRATCANN.COM Saskatchewan Highway Patrol (SHP) discovered nearly 4,000 pounds of illicit cannabis during a commercial vehicle inspection last week. On Wednesday April 7, 2021, SHP conducted a commercial vehicle safety inspection traffic stop near Caronport Saskatchewan Highway # 1. During the...
