  1. lol people are doing that? I mean, even passing up AstraZeneca or J&J to wait for Pfizer is stupid. Hell, I've seen some people say they'll pass up Pfizer for J&J. None of it makes sense!
  2. Wasn't sure where this fit, but this seems as good a place as any for previous atrocities/crimes:
  3. Northern Ireland: Protesters burn bus in Belfast WWW.DW.COM Crowds in Belfast set a hijacked bus on fire with petrol bombs and hurled stones at police as unrest continued in the region. The British prime minister expressed his deep concern over the violence.
  4. Ugh, in a bit of a pickle. The first wedding of 2021 (I do wedding photography on the side, 5-6 per year) is coming up in the middle of May. My city is currently under lockdown at least until the end of April, and likely longer than that, due to the uncontrolled spread of the B.1.1.7 variant (currently around 40 cases per 100k, per day). Currently, community halls and banquet halls (where their ceremony was planned) are closed, and all private indoor gatherings are banned. It sounds like they want to go ahead with a small ceremony (themselves, officiant, myself, and a videographer) and stream it to their family. However, if they do it indoors then I'm 95% sure it will contravene public health orders. If this were any other clients I would simply cancel and refund (and provide alternate options for replacement), but they are friends of mine. Another lesson as to why to never do business with friends, lol. Not sure what to do. It's possible that the health orders will be relaxed by then...but I also just don't feel comfortable being indoors with other people right now, especially so close to the end of the pandemic, and especially with my wife having asthma and a compromised immune system (not totally compromised, but lower than normal). This was going to be my last year of wedding photography anyway since my new job pays more than enough and I no longer need side hustles...I was considering just cancelling all my weddings this year (and providing replacements), but I am not sure what to do. I don't want to let down friends, but if they decide to be unsafe (and contravene health orders, or try to find loopholes in them), I also don't want to put myself and my wife at risk.
  5. I wonder if it's just an issue in general with vaccines for viruses, but we haven't really watched out for it as much in the past since we haven't done a large-scale program of this sort in a very long time?
  6. Also maybe the mRNA vaccines have the same issue? A Few Covid Vaccine Recipients Developed a Rare Blood Disorder - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM A link to the vaccines is not certain, and investigations are underway in some reported cases.
  7. I know you're joking, but Ontario is going back into lockdown for numbers that have risen to...what the US is also currently at (which are seen as good, in the US).
  8. EU drug regulator finds link between AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clots | Reuters WWW.REUTERS.COM Europe's drug regulator on Wednesday found a possible link between AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine and rare blood clotting issues in adults who had received the shot and said it had taken into consideration all available evidence. This supports the idea of only providing the AZ vaccine to people where the benefit outweighs the risk, and only then in situations where vaccine supply is limited for other types. Obviously an AZ dose for someone who is 65 makes a lot of sense since the blood clot risk is so low compared to the risk of dying via COVID-19. But for someone who is under 30, the situation flips. Even for someone in their 30s (where the risk of COVID-19 severe issues are still low), it probably makes sense to take the AZ vaccine if supplies of others are limited, as it's not only protecting you, but the people around you. The official report from the EMA says that the vaccine is still overall very safe and effective. Honestly, IMO it should still be used for everyone 30+ who doesn't have a history of clotting: AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine: EMA finds possible link to very rare cases of unusual blood clots with low blood platelets | European Medicines Agency WWW.EMA.EUROPA.EU AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine: EMA finds possible link to very rare cases of unusual blood clots with low platelets
  9. My solution to sports stadiums: Cities/states/provinces pay for the field itself (the turf + nets/goalposts, etc) and an area for people to stand on the sides. Private interests can then add any seating/stands they want and charge for admission to those for any events they hold. Otherwise, the public can use and book the field as they want (for community leagues, etc). There is a definite public benefit to having lots of sports fields to have community leagues in...but not much public benefit to having 50,000+ person stadiums.
  10. Financial estimates around stadiums are always the best. "If the city and state invest $500 million into this $505 million stadium, the local area will see an increase in economic activity of over $27 billion in the next three years!"
  11. True, but something to consider is that even though new cases in the US are dropping, they are still higher per capita than new cases in many other developed nations (who are entering the third/fourth wave). So it's great that the US is seeing a decline, but the damage from its super-waves is far higher than other nations smaller waves (which are still rising and falling).
  12. I mean, sure, idiots who refuse to take the vaccine can use this type of drug. But the people who really need it are the ones who can't take the vaccine for whatever legitimate medical reason.
  13. But the Bitcoin blockchain will ensure that he is recognized as the owner of the deposit. Surely.
