  1. University will require all undergraduate and graduate students to receive COVID-19 vaccines WWW.PRINCETON.EDU All students enrolled or otherwise present on campus for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year will be required to receive, and to provide proof of having received, a... Hopefully this becomes common (with the exception of a very small % of people who are medically unable to be vaccinated).
  2. Exactly. The goggles/cowl thing is very minor, and I have no doubt that with movie money they are going to improve on it quite a bit.
  3. I think the suit looks pretty good. Sure, there are a couple of improvements that can be made...but does anyone think it's worse than Avengers 1 Cap suit? I'm sure they will improve on it, just like they improved massively from Avengers 1 to CA: Winter Soldier (still the best Cap suit, imo).
  4. Oh for sure, getting the second dose is still important long-term (as will be the ongoing, annual boosters, likely). But 2x as many people with one shot is far superior to 1x as many with two shots, in terms of preventing death and spread.
  5. Also, interesting analysis out of the UK: Covid-19: Infections fell by 65% after first dose of AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine, data show WWW.BMJ.COM Infections of SARS-CoV-2 fell by 65% after a first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, preliminary results from a large UK surveillance study indicate. Reductions increased to 70% after a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, data from the UK Covid-19 Infection Survey show. Not enough people had yet received two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to assess this. The survey, carried out by the... AZ and Pfizer show similar effectiveness in real-world application. As I've suspected for some time, it appears that all of the four major western vaccines are about equally effective in the real world, and the major difference for the trial disparity was the timing/location of the trials themselves (with the mRNA vaccine trials taking place before the variants and during a lull, and the AZ/J&J trials taking place post-variant, and during the second wave).
  6. Just made my pre-booking to get a shot. Educational staff in my province are in the next phase (along with people aged 40), and should be getting shots next Thu/Fri, so I am registered for a callback next week on the specific date/time. Technically I'm support staff since I am in IT, but I guess I fall into the eligibility, so I am not going to refuse or feel guilty!
  7. In Canada we are seeing the same thing—in provinces where the government chose to use existing (strong) public infrastructure, vaccine rollout is going very smoothly (example: Saskatchewan, with a single booking system and all sites run by Sask Health Authority). In others (like Ontario) that have chosen to largely distribute via private companies (pharmacies, grocery stores, etc) the effort is much more chaotic and difficult. Having said that, the distribution becomes less important as supply matches or exceeds demand. But as long as demand is higher than supply, it makes far more sense to use existing health infrastructure to distribute doses since it can be centrally managed.
  8. Oxford Malaria vaccine proves highly effective in Burkina Faso trial | Malaria | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Vaccine developed by scientists at Jenner Institute, Oxford, shows up to 77% efficacy in trial over 12 months Huge news. This will save so many lives.
  9. It looks like Canada will get more people vaccinated than the US (in terms of at least one shot given) in the next 20-30 days. This is due to skipping second shots for now in an effort to create herd immunity with one shot. However, Canada will also surpass the US in second shots given in the late summer, based on trends. I think it's due to lower vaccine hesitancy. US seems likely to level off between 60 and 70% total vaccination, with Canada between 70 and 80%. How much of a difference this will make, I don't know
  10. Yeah I don't wear a mask if I'm just walking in the neighbourhood (though I keep one in my pocket, just in case!). But if I were theoretically going to be in a very busy pedestrian area (close to hundreds of people, shoulder to shoulder) I suppose I would.
  11. Good. Fuck those sick fucks that make all their money through existing capital and then pay less taxes than people actually working for it. All capital gains should be taxed at the same level as income, no exceptions (well, except sale of primary residence, I suppose). The two options are tax the rich or eat the rich. To clarify, this is the highest capital gains tax level for the rich. Sounds like it will scale up. It should just be scaled the same was as income (just bundle it all together).
  12. Also, Biden has made another agreement in principle with Canada to share doses, and has expanded the agreement to include doses to Central America: I would expect many of the doses would be the 20-25 million AstraZeneca doses sitting unused in the US. While obviously I have a personal interest in those doses going to Canada since it means I will be vaccinated faster, I also know that Canada is doing pretty damned well compared to most other countries, so the bulk should go to Central America.
  13. Congrats! I think the (valid) complaint is that there is no centralized system to search and book appointments in Ontario. In SK, there is a single site and you just pick a time and place, easy peezy. Or you go to the local drive-thru and wait in line if you prefer.
