General Gaming Update: RIP in Peace, Marvel's Avengers
Xbob42 replied to Commissar SFLUFAN's topic in The Spawn Point
The latest patch fixing "over 1,000 bugs" certainly didn't convince me that I needed to run out and buy a copy, that's for goddamn sure.- 541 replies

I mean, Schreier's always been a defensive little bitch, he's got the thinnest skin in town.

I saw video of someone pressing a button and the character immediately moving, which puts it at least 6 points ahead of RDR2 on a 10-point scale already.

Nintendo Nintendo says Joycon drift isn't a real problem.
Xbob42 replied to CastletonSnob's topic in The Spawn Point
And risk giving my new joy-cons a static shock? No thanks! -
Yeah, RDR2 runs like ass in general. Dude seems to get between 50-60 FPS at true 4k, dips into the high 40s a few times, but he's also at pretty much absolute maxed settings (unlike the guy above who actually had some stuff on medium despite being at 1440p) that are WAY overkill and barely offer any visual increase in exchange for big drops in performance. It's like The Witcher 2's old Ubersampling or whatever that can still bring modern systems to their knees. Just a "oh well, go fuckin' wild" set of options, which I respect even if it might never be feasible, often due to the game engine itself. This is a game that would greatly benefit from a good DLSS implementation.

Ah, the classic troubleshooting tip of "mine's fine, problem doesn't exist." You should work for Nintendo! Meanwhile I had one drifting worse than my set I'd already had for a year, right out of the box! They must've been really chompin' Doritos while packing it. -

Every single joy-con I have exhibits massive drift problems, bad enough that my wife finds Animal Crossing unplayable when using them. She props the Switch up on something (the shitty little kickstand just falls out now) and uses a pro controller. -
I don't personally have a problem with always-online games, most of the time at least. But I do raise my eyebrows at the concept on platforms where you have to pay to use the internet you already pay for.

I'm just so happy that out of all the shitty and usually unimpressive bells and whistles we get each gen, we're finally seeing something I've been griping about for years: Real reflections and to a lesser extent, way better shadows. I've also got my fingers crossed for some of the crazy colored lighting mixing we've seen in Minecraft RTX (that shit is super crazy and fun to play around with, and really makes Minecraft feel different) but I have a little less hope for that since I believe it's more intensive and probably would be noticed less than something big like reflections. I hope the era of fake ass mirrors that either don't work, are broken, or reflect a Game Boy Advance-quality image are gone. You can do a lot of cool stuff with reflections besides just looking nice, and it can add SO much to a scene.

I had already changed my thermal paste, which had indeed gotten crusty. Helped a little bit, but not much. Also those benchmarks show wildly different performance for the 1080 Ti, weird. One's 70 FPS, and one's damn near 100. And yeah, it's still an amazing card, but gen 2 RTX is something to behold!
