  1. The reflections might be exaggerated, but they are absolutely not all pristine perfect mirrors. There's all kinds of different warped and rippled and diffuse reflections absolutely everywhere. I'm not saying they're all perfect or anything, lord knows they're not, but most of them are damn good and are infinitely better than the shit we've had since forever.
  2. It being weird is the primary reason I want one. That and the black and white screen reminds me of Vib Ribbon, which was a simple, weird and fun game.
  3. Raytracing looks fantastic in Watch Dogs Legion. The game runs like shit no matter what unless you switch to DX11. So rest assured, raytracing is not the source of that game's performance woes. I can turn RTX from off to ultra and gain practically no FPS, which is absurd. It also runs like shit on last-gen consoles, and, if the recent trailer is anything to go by, next-gen consoles. Plus, it doesn't look to be implementing full raytracing as at the very least the water is just basic SSR instead of PC's raytracing, and the trailer appeared to be at 1440p to boot. All this is to say I think Watch Dogs Legion is a bad example of anything because Ubisoft fucking sucks.
  4. http://play.date//static/images/favicon-16x16.png Playdate October 2020 Update PLAY.DATE Quick summary: a tough year, but our Season One games are locked, with more games than planned, the hardware is locked, the OS is almost there, and mass production for batch one starts next month. Mass production starts in November, and "season one" is getting extra games due to how much extra time it took due to 2020 being 2020. I dunno if anyone else cares about this thing, but I still do. Looks like a neat little thing to have some fun with.
  5. Went and tested it out, their water definitely seems to be using the basic SSR, which has several shortcomings, such as: halo effect around distant objects, reflections dropping in quality tremendously after a certain distance, reflections absent from edges of screen, very apparent when turning the camera, etc. This on top of the reflections being of much lower quality, which isn't too noticeable in something distorted and moving like water, which is probably why they used it. SSR: Raytracing:
  6. Also it doesn't look like maxed out raytracing either. You don't see issues like that with raytracing, so I'm assuming for the water they're using SSR, which is famous for shit like that.
  7. I hope Nintendo remains embarrassed that it thought Bandai Namco could even remotely handle this project.
  8. Maybe the drivers were to protect your GPU rather than to enhance performance? On a more serious note, the patch they're rolling out seems way too comprehensive about way too many issues people are having to have just been something they threw together post-launch, if there's anything resembling competence among the people making Legion I'd assume the driver updates will work in tandem with the update.
  9. It seems fine so far. It's definitely an open world Ubisoft game. I'm still too early to really have a grasp on it, but I turned on permadeath/ironman to make sure it at least feels different from other open world games. Have been very careful not to get slaughtered. I don't think it's gonna blow anyone's socks off, but it's got a lot more life to it so far than Watch Dogs 1 did. Never played 2.
  10. Really liking how absolutely every surface of the game is slathered in RTX reflections. I eat that shit up. I spent a few minutes just running around this car as a spider bot, enjoying the reflections and how I could see everything behind me, and how it wasn't shitty SSR. It makes the city feel alive when the cars and all the windows properly reflect everything, gives an illusion of even more life since there's so much more on-screen moving at once, but rarely in a distracting way. I also really liked warped glass that gives warped reflections or the bumper of this car. I especially like how HDR combines with the really nice lighting in the game to where you get a really atmospheric sky reflected in a puddle and it gets a certain quality to it that I'm sure I could describe if I knew anything about lighting or photography, but it's really nice looking when it happens. I should take a video next time I see it. You can unlock the game early with a VPN, by the way. Has been available for hours.
  11. At base rasterization in some titles, sure. But without a DLSS equivalent (and their answer "not being ready at launch," and them being dramatically inferior to nvidia at AI...) then it's all kind of moot. DLSS has been the real game changer. The time for raw rasterization power to impress was any generation prior to this. Raytracing is only even viable at modern resolutions because of DLSS. It can keep a game looking real damn good while dramatically improving performance.
  12. Uhh, it seems like it sort of might, but by default it definitely plays out like a linear story, just broken into stages. I just noticed that when I beat the first level, it tracked my time and deaths, so I wanted to hit 0 deaths and get it done fast because I love that kind of stuff, have since Super Meat Boy.
