NEW YORK (WABC) -- The U.S. Department Of Justice identified New York City, Portland, and Seattle as jurisdictions permitting violence and destruction of property on Monday morning.

The DOJ says the three cities have permitted violence and destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract criminal activities.

The President of United States can't interfere with federal funding for cities and states just because he feels like it. We have laws in this country. So if you persist and trying to deny the funding, we will see you in court. And once again, we will beat you in court," Mayor de Blasio said.

SCOTUS 6-3: yes the president, not congress, can withhold funds from a jurisdiction

We've already decided that the government can withhold highway funds from states that don't raise their drinking age to 21.  It isn't a far leap to say they also have the power to do this.

Creeping Federal authority is a bitch.

One is a condition of related money as determined by congress, one is the executive deciding to go it alone. Unless there’s some statutory authority given to the executive that I’m not aware of that allows them to withhold funds without congressional approval due to there being “anarchist jurisdictions”

in fact a good faith reading of nfib v seilbius (lol I know) would mean that this is an unconstitutional withholding of funds

congress good executive bad it’s not hard folks
