I doubt I'll be watching, most of the reviewers I trust really did not like this. I have noticed you're pretty super easy on most stuff too. :p

Maybe it's a misconception with my scale. I do it like grade based so a 7 is average. 6 is borderline ok and 5 is bad and anything below is how bad of bad is it. :p

Yeah to me a 5 is average, so that definitely throws things off - that makes more sense now. :p

I just watched the first episode of this, and somewhat enjoyed it. It didn’t really seem like Resident Evil except for a few nods here and there, but it was ok horror/sci-fi taken on its own. It was an hour long, and held my interest throughout. I liked it enough to want to keep watching the series, so I’m going to stick with it for now and see how it continues.

Clearly a case of lifting a character and some ideas for the source material  and going your own way.

The Halo approach - which is working great for that show. :p

God I couldn’t even make it more than 15 min into this before I turned it off. I’m pretty easy to please but I hated this for whatever reason

I’m not easy to please because there’s an overabundance of stuff to watch on streaming services so I don’t waste my time on anything that doesn’t really grab me, but this show has somewhat. At least enough for me to give it a chance and see what it has to offer. I don’t think that it’s great, but I’ve been finding it interesting enough to keep watching for now.

As far as the first episode goes I thought it was fine. "True gamers" are hardly a metric to go on when it comes to these kinds of things, they would hate it no matter what. But I can see some people really disliking it for: 1. Woman lead character 2. People of Color 3. Vegans!

It's more interesting and promising than Halo so far. (And I thought Halo was ok) The writing is semi serious but with some cheese thrown in (the Wesker pornhub line stands out for me). Production values are mostly good though I thought the dog at the end looked kinda iffy.

maybe I was just not in the right mood last night. I’ll give it another shot.

I finished the second and third episodes, and I liked them a little more than the first. They spent more time in the future (the show’s present timeline), and the third episode especially had a lot of action. I haven’t gotten too much of a Resident Evil feeling from the show, but that hasn’t really bothered me. I’m finding it to be good horror/sci-fi with an interesting story and characters which is what counts the most to me.

Show sounds like it's not Resident Evil.

It is in some ways, but admittedly does seem like a different already preexisting story that they made into Resident Evil instead of it being Resident Evil from the start. I personally think that it would probably be better being its own thing instead of feeling like they’re shoehorning in some elements of Resident Evil so that they can call it that since it’s an already established, popular and recognizable IP. It would also probably be more well received if it was its own separate show not associated with Resident Evil since a lot of the dislike for it seems to be because it’s so dissimilar to what Resident Evil is.

Like with Halo, that was my biggest worry. There's already plenty of zombie content out there, I was interested in this because it was Resident Evil specifically, not because of zombies generically. But for those who don't care about that or Resident Evil, watch away if it's good.

I agree with a lot of what you said and I think I even said as much earlier in the the thread.

I think the show is more of a reboot or retelling of a new Resident Evil. Rather than going back to 1998 they've gone to 2022 (right now) and the future when things turn to shit because of Umbrella. And what IS very Resident Evil about the show are the monsters. The dogs are very spot on, the lickers the giant monsters (anyone remember fighting that giant Snake in the first game?) It's not just "zombies" it's more, it's Resident Evil. But it's all starting from Wesker (well the new Wesker anyway).

I do think that if they were like hey let's get Claire and Leon in here it would feel like maybe a bad cosplay and obviously would be under even more scrutiny than it is. You want to see Claire and Leon do stuff, watch the shitty animated movies. Go play the games they will always exist. The suplex is canon.

I think it's going to be very interesting coming up here, when The Last of Us show comes out because that sounds like it's going to be a very faithful (Retelling?) of the game, which I always thought was dumb, why would I want to watch a show about a game I could just play? 🤷‍♀️ If that's what you're looking for skip RE. Save us the "Worse than I thought it would be" malarkey and  go watch that show instead.

To me the story kind of seems like one that was conceptualized to be an original show, but was never green-lighted due to zombie fatigue. But when it came to making a Resident Evil show they decided to use it since it’s a pretty good concept, and it wouldn’t be just another zombie show that way. I pretty much knew what to expect from it based on its previews, so I didn’t really go into it expecting it to be too much like the Resident Evil games. I was just hoping that it would be an entertaining horror/sci-fi show despite its name, and that’s pretty much what it is IMO.

Yeah, it does seem a lot like a reboot or retelling. And you’re right about the creatures and monsters, almost all of them so far have been from the games. There’s definitely some Resident Evil DNA in it for sure, it’s not all different.

I want The Last of Us show to begin fairly faithful to the game, but not to the point where I feel like I’m just watching a live action version of it. If it’s meant to be a long running show and not just one season, then I’m sure that it will be more than just a retelling of the first game.

I finished the fourth episode, and it was pretty good. It spent more time in the future than the previous episodes, and felt the most like a Resident Evil game so far. I’m halfway through the season now, and while it had a bit of a slow start it has picked up quite a bit at this point.

I finished the fifth episode, and it was a good one. While the fourth episode was an almost all action episode that spent most of the time in the future, the fifth episode took place entirely in the present. In case you didn’t know, the show takes place during two timelines - our present which is the show’s past (2022), and our future which is the show’s present (2036). This is to show both past and current events.

and to be honest I still don't know what to think of this show

That’s the fourth episode. You’re halfway through the show, and you still don’t know what to think of it? You must be somewhat enjoying it to have watched four episodes of it. I’m enjoying it myself, but it does have a kind of weird vibe to it that’s hard to place. There’s just something about it that feels a little off that I can’t quite put my finger on, but it has been interesting enough to keep me wanting to watch it.

I have to admit I am doing other stuff while it's on so I am not giving it my full attention, but I must say I don't really like the actress who plays modern Jade. Not sure what it is about her that irks me.

I can’t do other stuff while watching shows or movies, but that’s me. As for the actress who plays modern Jade, I like her. I’m not sure why you don’t, but different strokes for different folks.

I finished the sixth episode which was a bit slow, but delivered a real banger of an ending. I only have two more episodes to go, and the way that the show has been going I expect the final episode to be a cliffhanger. I wonder how long that we’re going to have to wait for season 2.

I like both of the Jades acting wise (Are we considering modern jade like past Jade? Like the 2022 one?) but the past Jade is kinda dumb while future Jade seems pretty smart, but I guess that's expected. :p

I like the younger Jade....as for older jade being smart.....ummm no

IKR

Spoiler

I expected her to have her daughter leave the room immediately, not let her stay and watch her conduct an experiment with a zero. At the very least she should have put some of that protective spray on her daughter as an extra precaution, when she didn’t I knew that something was going to happen.

This complete lapse of judgment has made me not like adult Jade as much as I did before, because it was pure idiocy on her part. It’s hard to root for a character that does dumb shit like this.

I finished the seventh episode, and at least Jade acknowledged the fact that she was a dumb ass for what she did in the previous episode. The show is starting to go off the rails a little bit, but I’m fine with it since it’s kind of fun.

The one problem that I have is that adult Billie doesn’t really look or act like teen Billie, they didn’t match the two actresses for them as well as they did for the two that play Jade.

There’s only one more episode to go, so it’s definitely going to end abruptly which kind of sucks because there’s no guarantee that there’s going to be a second season since the first season hasn’t been very well received by critics or viewers.

I finished the eighth and final episode, and as expected it ends with there needing to be another season to continue the story. It would be a shame if there isn’t a second season, because I quite enjoyed the show and would like to see more.

Adult Billie was more prominent in the final episode, and I still found it a little off-putting how different looking and acting that she is compared to teen Billie. But I can see how they will probably explain why her personality has changed so much over the years in further episodes.

I somewhat agree with the IGN review of it, although the reviewer did seem to like it a little more than I did. However, it’s not nearly as bad as some negative critic and viewer reviews have claimed that it is. I enjoyed it for the most part, and want to continue it.

Probably because it says its Resident Evil when it's not actually adapting Resident Evil. Either way, you might get a second season, but this thing is getting absolutely blasted online. 3.6/10 after 14,000 votes on IMDb; 50% critics score, 26% audience score on RottenTomatoes and an abysmal 1.6/10 after 103 audience votes on Metacritic.

Cowboy Bebop and Halo both had much better reviews across the board and Bebop still got cancelled and Halo is still getting pretty panned online even with a season 2 renewal, so I wouldn't be too hopeful but you never know.
