No.

How much anesthesia did you get?

They gave me a topical numbing gel, then shot me up with the strong stuff…About two hours later the numbness has mostly gone away.

is it fun?

It’s not too bad, I’ve definitely had worse dental experiences.

When was the last time you got a perio charting?

January, which was my first trip to the dentist since before the pandemic…Some of my pockets were 3-4 mm, so that in combination with some plaque they saw on the X-ray led to their suggestion.

Skipping the dentist because of the pandemic is one thing I didn't fuck around with. I just started making a point of grabbing the first appointment of the day.

This was the same situation I was in 2 dentist visits ago. I have periodontal disease. My gum pocket depths are routinely 2-3mm. I had a couple pockets that were 4mm and my xray showed some bone loss between those teeth. At that time, my dentist recommended I have this same thing you had done.

I passed on it in part due to the numbing required (otherwise because it's an extra $100).

At my next dental visit 4 months later (3x visits per year based on periodontal maintenance) the measurements at those teeth was down to 3mm. They did not recommend any action. I'll continue to get yearly xrays and monitor bone loss.

So my question is... Do you feel like your dentist is fleecing you?

Not really. All told this will only put me out around $200, and I’m risk-adverse enough that is a price I’m willing to pay for better dental health.
