chakoo
Yep. It was quite boring taking my father in law for blood work since my cell is Rogers and the place's we were at also used rogers so their free wifi was dead. Luckily things went fast. I was fine at home since my home internet is bell. Service finally starting to return at about 5pm, Eastern.
silentbob
I went to get some bagels up the street from my house today. Guy couldn’t buy anything because he was with Rogers and didn’t have any cash on him. Walked out yelling “this is fucking ridiculous on your stores end. Can’t even have working debit” Lady behind me in line “it’s the entire country and not just precious you. You hear, it’s the entire country and Rogers” Funny enough, credit was still working at some stores but it was all cash everywhere else. Cogeco came knocking at my door today too, and looking to have us switch over to them. We had them before and glad we switched to Bell for consistent Internet. I don’t think anyone really wants to switch to them after todays fiasco with Rogers. As Rogers has tried a couple of times in recent years to buy them out/merge with them. Plus Bell just did a ton of Fibre network upgrades to my neighbourhood over the past few weeks and should be even better with higher download rates soon. Currently capped at 100Mbsp which does ok for most my needs but would love to get that higher for game downloads.
CitizenVectron
One of the VERY few good things about living in Saskatchewan is that we still have the government-owned Sasktel (from back when we had socialist governments), which provides fiber and cell service to anyone who wants it for like 50% of the price of the rest of Canada. Rogers competes here in the cell market, but they just use Sasktel's network anyway, so this wasn't a big deal, here.

dualhunter
Fido uses the Rogers network so it was also affected. It may have been a coincidence but the alarm system at work had an alert too. This isn't the first time there's been a major Rogers/Fido outage.

My sister just switched from Fido to Virgin(Bell) because of over charges and other shit. My previous job was all run on Rogers from driver routes/schedules, signing delivery by receiver/owner, Internet, phones, alerts for people that the load arrived at store, signing into stores and pretty fucking much everything. I wouldn’t be surprised if no trucks went out today and non go out tomorrow. Also not the only time where communication delays kept anything/everything from going anywhere. silentbob
They canceled/postponed The Weeknd’s concert in Toronto on Friday because thought digital only for everything because of Covid. Plus the scanners to verify the tickets wouldn’t work either paper or digital. I almost took some tickets to see Roger Waters tonight, but I don’t even know if that would of worked. . . . ok they were still working. I guess the Scotiabank Arena runs off of Bell networks instead.
Keyser_Soze
Probably unrelated but I had an outage for 3 hours today.
silentbob
So apparently some folks were still without working Internet and are just getting it back today. My brother said he just got tv back late last night but even that isn’t working too great.
CitizenVectron
We don't even have much Rogers service in Saskatchewan but it still affected us since many major banks use them in Ontario (and therefore everything flows out from their data centres). The fact that the major banks (which are mostly in Ontario) only pay for single providers at their data centres (and in a province where there are only two dominant ISPs) is criminal. I hope that the banks somehow are fined over this (along with Rogers for disruption of emergency services).

I was in the Vancouver area this weekend and initially I was Bell and it was fine, but yesterday I was connected to Rogers and it wasn't working even though it said I had a connection. My friends said the same thing. And it was still not working today depending on where I was. And the ATM I tried to use today wouldn't work, which I'm guessing is because it was probably on Rogers. Then I tried to do cash back at a supermarket but it wouldn't work because I guess unlike in the US debit cards in Canada aren't ever Visa/MasterCard, so mine just kept running as a credit card and immediately printing a signature slip.
