    keeping guns in the house, regardless of training, increases the likelihood of a 'successful' suicide attempt (to say nothing of crimes of passion). i know the gun nuts don't like to hear about suicide statistics ("they'll find another way") but getting shot kills you faster and with a greater chance of 'success' (and there's less room for error in the case of a last minute step back from the brink) than other ways. if you have kids just don't have guns. simple as that.
