  1. Between this and the water tank explosion in California yesterday, it's a wild week for as of yet unexplained engineering disasters.
  2. This is either the most dangerous interaction between NATO and Russia in recent memory, or the dumbest. Either way, it's a great example of how misinformation spreads and creates multiple different portrayals of events.
  3. I'm entitled to hyperbole in thread titles. Especially when it isn't highly unbelievable that it would be the case, even if there's no proof.
  4. I had well and truly forgotten about him. For some reason I thought #Basta was from like Silvio Berlusconi or something.
  5. I see Vova is entering his twilight Saddam Hussein years of rule. Maybe he'll write a nationalist romance novel next.
  6. I'm a wormy indoorsman that doesn't do too much cardio. So I would imagine literally running for 90+ minutes every few days is probably not the best thing for some people, especially when heart disease or heart issues are not only generally common, but also silent.
  7. I've had to transfer as-built drawings from Contractor notes before. I'm in agreement that some of them can barely write.
  8. A buddy of mine lives in El Salvador. He's been doing a lot of research into this... And it looks a little shaky! El Salvador passes its Bitcoin Law — and it’s a Tether scam – Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain DAVIDGERARD.CO.UK The El Salvador Bitcoin scheme is a barely-planned smash-and-grab.
  9. Developer Abandons Keystone XL Pipeline Project, Ending Decade Long Battle WWW.NPR.ORG TC Energy had suspended construction in January when President Biden revoked a key permit. The controversial project was a major flashpoint in the debate over fossil fuels' role in climate change.
  10. The answer to 'who will risk it' is: nearly every family that has a loved one with Alzheimer's. My family dealt with this for years as my grandmother's dementia progressed. Being on that side of the issue, I can't really tell if this is exploitative of families that deal with dementia (because they WILL take the chance on the coin flip if they can), or if it's just something better than whatever else is out there that they've tried to no effect.
  11. Much like the Panama Papers, this will slide right through our brains because we already understood this to be how the world works.
  12. I'm basically rewatching some of the ones that hit me the hardest. On a re-watch, "That Funny Feeling" is the one that hit me like a gut punch. This writeup really summarizes it well. It's the perfect summation of the most recent years of my adulthood. Bo Burnham's "Funny Feeling" Acts as the Emotional Centerpiece Of His... DECIDER.COM Take a closer look at the masterful song that's a highlight of Burnham's special. This hour and a half one man show might be the finest distillation of what has gone on inside everyone's brain. This, and the final song of the special have nearly reduced me to tears. It's really cathartic to hear in words and poetry and song what I've experienced in the last 15 months.
  13. I keep going back to this absolute madness. It's just so fucking good.
  14. I feel pretty done voting for anything besides local representatives. The Democratic party has done a lot to radicalize and dissolution me with electoral politics at a national level in the last 6 years.
  15. I have seen it advertised, but I've not seen it. I may check it out.
