2.5D platformers are almost cheating but Klonoa would get a great reception today especially with its story. Tomba to a lesser degree. Back to 3D platformers, Ape Escape would be well received today.

I think ps1 probably has a lot of esoteric games that would make good indie games today. Parapa the Rappa/Lammy, Intelligent Cube, Devil Dice, Tail of the Sun, No one can stop mr Domino etc

None of the grocery stores I go to even offer plastic. But Target does actually still. Glad they are doing a total ban but I agree they should force stores to offer a biodegradable option which maybe this will help push though idk.

Is NiGHTS Into Dreams too obvious a pick? That game would probably actually be better received released as an indie throwback game with a completely unique design.

I did play a little of the original Foxyland I believe. The publisher is interesting. I would see them all the time on the eshop when I used to look at their sale section more often as they would always be like $1 or $2. So many of them look so similar but if you look often the developers are different but also the developers just link back to the publisher. I wanted to learn a little more so I checked and helpfully the publisher website actually lets you sort by what engine the games use. So I looked and all the cheap platformers and it looks like they are being made using an engine called “Construct”: Games Editor WWW.CONSTRUCT.NET Use our advanced and powerful games editor to build the game you've always imagined. Our editor is packed with features to allow you to create your own games. Never heard of it before but it looks like it’s a program to create 2D games without having to know how to program. If anyone remembers Click and Play on pc back in the day, the engine seems almost like a modern version of that. And there also seems to be some portal where people dump their games on. So I’m guessing the publisher trolls that portal and ones for other engines of the like and ports/publishes the games they find. Not to say it means they are bad games but it’s kind of itch.io caliber where I’d expect something very basic and amateur without interesting physics.
