  1. I was just out for a walk with my dog on my lunch break when suddenly I heard someone running up behind me. Right as I turned around, I heard someone shout "Stop! Or I'll use force!" and I see a police officer chasing a guy running right at me. I had literally one or two seconds to even realize what was happening, and in the moment I just moved to the side of the sidewalk with my dog and let them both go by. They quickly turned down a side street and disappeared. When I was walking back past the area on my way home, there were two cop cars but I didn't see the guy they were chasing, so I'm guessing he got away.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation  before? Did you react any differently? Knowing nothing about the suspect or officers involved, I have zero regrets about just staying out of it this time, personally, but I could also see myself possibly helping the police if e.g. I was certain that the suspect had done something seriously wrong.

  2. I went on my first run in a long time (4 months?) and my first night run in the city tonight. I only did a little over a mile (trying not to overdo it) at around a 9 min/mile pace, but it felt great. Work has been stressing me out lately and I needed to move. My dog loved it too. :sun:

Going to try to run more regularly, rain or shine.

Book five of the Stillhouse Lake series, Heartbreak Bay started. And I’m finally continuing the the Dark Tower series with Drawing of the Three. I hope it gets better after the first book, that was a drag.

Here's another vote of confidence in your enjoyment of The Dark Tower series, now that you're through the worst one. :p Wizard and Glass (#4, IIRC)  was one of my favorite books for a long time. I only say "was one of my favorite" because it's been a very long time (15+ years) since I've read it, at this point, but I remember it had a great and very moving story. Enjoy the journey ahead! :sun:

Did you try it exactly as it is in the Steam group? If so, that's why it didn't work, it's missing a . between 246 and 17, so if you just copied and pasted, it won't work.

How does the vs machine mode work? Normally we'd need 6-8 people to have a good chance of attracting others to join. With fewer players, it'd be better to join a populated server.

Ah yes, I bet that's it; I did indeed just copy and paste. Thanks!

Mann vs. Machine is a pretty fun mode; basically you and some friends fight against waves of bots that are pretty dumb but they overwhelm with numbers. You're right, we might have more luck getting a game of that mode going than a full 12 v. 12.

I'll try to get something organized in the next days!

  5. Also I'll just point out that we're a little imbalanced in our powers of persuasion, @stepee. You convinced me to buy Rokid Max glasses ($400), a Steam Deck ($550), and an LG G3 ($3,000) and I convinced you to buy Genital Jousting ($3). :p

Totally kidding, of course; I wanted all of those things. :p

  6. I think I know the answer to this :( but...

I was just poking around in some Steam community pages and I found the Bad Cartridge/D1P group (anyone not in it already should join!) and I noticed that its description mentions the TF2 server. Unfortunately, I can't even remember the last time I played on it (maybe 2015 ? :() and when I tried to connect to the IP given in the Steam group from within TF2, it said it couldn't find anything.  It's gone, right @Commissar SFLUFAN ?

Would people still potentially be interested in a TF2 night some weekend, for old time's sake? <3

This..actually sold me on it. damnit.

I saw you added it to your wishlist.

I was playing on the Steam Deck earlier (maybe 5 minutes) but resumed playing on my desktop for the last 45 minutes just because I was on my desktop already after just having stopped playing Counter-Strike 2, but it does seem to run very well on the Deck, FWIW. I don't want to oversell it though... it's definitely not GOTY material :p , but it's an amusing way to spend a bit of time, IMO. And it was $5 or so.

  8. Busted.

I've had the game for a while and never tried it. Its story mode is surprisingly funny; I'm about 45 minutes in (to what the Internet claims is about a 1.5 hour mode) and it's made me laugh out loud quite a few times, though I fully admit to having a juvenile sense of humor at times. :p It has this proper sounding British lady narrating a story of a dick that is unhappy with his life and he tries all kinds of things to make himself happy. For example:

    Mild Genital Jousting story spoilers

I just went on an international tour where visiting some of the world's wonders involves shoving them up my ass.  :daydream:

Anyway I think if someone can laugh at that kind of stuff (e.g. the South Park: Stick of Truth game) you'll probably enjoy this; it's an amusing, short, and very playable game. I won't expect to become an international Genital Jousting champ online though. :p

so if I were to keep the 4090 , and im buying a monitor anyway, it would make sense to get a 4K monitor. any reason (other than size) why I wouldn’t just go for a 42” C3?

HUGE mistake. It will ruin all other monitors for you that aren't OLED. :p

Too many people think he’s a wolf/wolf hybrid that it’s almost annoying: the vet, who works with hybrids and full bred wolfs at a sanctuary in Jackson, NJ took one look at him and laughed and said “yea, no - definitely not a hybrid” :p

Beautiful pup! How old, and how long have you had him?

Long story. But when I lost my job and benefits I could no longer see them. They never once called me in 3 months wondering how I was doing. I'm on serious medication and they gave zero fucks about me.

Plus, when I visited him he would ask the same fuckin questions each visit as though I was a new patient. He is 75yrs old and extremely delusional. He is a hardcore conservative and would preach to me every visit about what the left is doing wrong.

He and his wife are only out for money and it's disgusts me.

Yeah sounds like he needs to retire and continue to sink into his Fox News hellhole. :p

Good for you for recognizing the issues there and doing something about it; that's huge!

Tech sector is laying off people because they hired too much based on the tech boom caused by Covid lockdowns.

I was one of the people hired by a tech company during the COVID expansions. Just in my immediate team of around 15, in the last year and a half we've lost 4, and my company in general lost several thousand employees. I think the only reason we aren't (currently) going through more of that is because they haven't replaced those that left from the layoffs or just from regular attrition. :s

I see a new Psychiatrist today so I'm hyped. My old one was flat out evil. Glad it's Friday for you.

Good for you for advocating for yourself. If you don't mind sharing, I'm curious: what made you realize that they may not have had your best interests at heart?

I read that due to how close it sits to the wall, you have cut in a large recess in for an access box? is that not the case?

Fortunately I didn't have to do that, no. It's true that the included bracket doesn't let it get super far out from the wall, but I found it more than enough to get all of my cables plugged in. I can imagine if you didn't have very easy access to the sides of your TV it might be trickier.
