The reality is there isn't enough sick leave given to employees so they HAVE to show up.
Yes that is unfortunately the current reality, so my hope in telling the manager would be to let them see that they're losing business by not providing adequate sick leave for their employees.
To be clear, I fully expect them to not give a shit about one customer doing so, but hopefully in the aggregate...

I always forget that you grew up in pretty much my least favorite place on the planet. What town specifically were you in? Mormons genuinely consider themselves Christian, so there was no lie of commission there at any rate.I grew up in a small town near Twin Falls, Idaho, about 4 hours from Salt Lake City. Though the town had fewer than 2,000 people, it had seven or eight different denominations' churches (Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, etc.) and the Mormon church was by far the biggest/most popular. A good third of my classmates were Mormons, and in fact my best friend from elementary school through high school is Mormon (he had 11 siblings and now has four kids of his own; I have a dog ).

Yeah I think I would have left also but actually told the manager why. IMO it needs to become culturally completely unacceptable to go to work when you're sick.

They might not consider mormonism an actual faith? I dunno. Does he wear the special underwear?1 hour ago, Kal-El814 said:Lots of Democrats are some flavor of Christian, many Christians don't think Mormons are Christian.
Interesting. Reading more about it, it sounds like Mormons consider themselves Christians but many Catholics and (eastern) orthodox religions, as well as many Protestants, don't consider them Christian. I grew up in Mormon country and always took them at face value when they claimed they were Christian, but didn't really ever deep dive into their theology, because what I did hear of it already sounded crazy enough. TIL!

Who are these mysterious 10% of Democrats that believe Trump is a person of faith? Be curious what their definition of person of faith is. Also, lol @ only 13% of Republicans believing Biden is a person of faith, when he very deeply is, compared to 64% for Trump, who obviously is not a person of faith. The poll is only of 1,000 registered voters so is pretty meaningless on a macro scale.
It also seems very odd to me that only 53% of Democrats are saying Romney is a person of faith... Isn't that one of his biggest identity claims, and unlike Trump he's actually got credibility there?!

Funny enough, it’s my work these days that allows even more time for reading. Most nights the patients go to bed early and if they’re quiet, I just sit down with a book once I’m done charting and just do my hourly rounds until time for them to get up.
That's a great way to get some reading done! Makes me miss my student days in Germany when I could set my own schedule, so it almost always included sitting by the river and reading for an hour every day. Now my 8-5 (plus 1.5 hour total commute) M-F doesn't leave me much free time during the week and I've been prioritizing gaming. Then, at least in good weather I try to get out and do some hiking and such on the weekends. But it's the rainy season, so maybe it's the reading season.
Anyway... Probably a hard question, but: What would be your top picks for 1)nonfiction and 2) fiction books you read this year?

I'm optimistic about 2024. I've got some big trips planned (Germany, Hawaii), I'm going to get into a regular exercise habit, I'm developing new skills at work... Life is pretty good overall.

Small Mercies was fantastic. Definitely gonna read more of Lehane. With that completed, I'll end the year with 118 books read. A new record. I was on paces for a lot more, but starting with vacation in October, I slowed down a lot the last few months.
Started The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon last night. A promising historical fiction.
Damn, 118 in a year is still impressive, IMO. My personal best was something like 60 and you blew that completely out of the water!
This year I'm at something like 10 books or less. Working life sucks, man.

Ok i need some advice. I use a pitbull skull shaver but it’s a year old and now doing a shit job. I assume the blade is dull. I’ve never shaved with a regular razor because I’ve had acne problems since I was 13. Do I just get a new skull shaver or finally learn to shave with a regular razor?
Knowing nothing of these Pitbull shavers: can you just 1)clean the head or 2) buy a whole new head? It may just be clogged or dull, and cleaning/replacing could be sufficient.

I think if you told them of their mistake and they made another, it would severely impact my willingness to believe they'd handle fixing it correctly.
There also may be a bug or delay in the system that causes it to refund automatically right away but charge again later. As long as it's not a huge cost, I'd probably just leave it, I think. If it was a small mom and pop shop I'd definitely go back and talk to someone to try and figure it all out, but with such a huge company I'm not sure it's really worth anybody's time to worry about it.

Just knowing what a dishonest piece of crap Trump is, I'm guessing that this is a Wordcloud of what the "liberal media" is saying about him, which he will use to again claim victim status.

Yeah between that, the oftentimes inclusion of a digital code, plus also the fact that for the most part, 4K discs are region free, so yay for that as well. Happy holidays Nokra!
I've never used the digital codes since I just rip them myself so I'm curious: Do the digital versions from the codes usually include some kind of DRM?
And Happy Holidays!

Why the need to resize it though? We've got plenty of huge emoticons already

Good haul, @SoberChef!
On a side note: Something I didn't even realize when I started buying 4K movies but for which I'm grateful is how many of them come with not only the 4K Blu-ray but also the "standard" Blu-ray. Getting that standard Blu-ray feels like a nice bonus and makes it much easier to e.g. 1)rip to my hard drive and 2)watch at someone else's house who hasn't yet upgraded to 4K.

My family and I watched Elf (with Will Ferrell) and A Charlie Brown Christmas last night and we'll probably watch It's a Wonderful Life in the next couple of days.

I ended up getting my BIL - a 27 year old kid - an X-shot Excel Insanity Motorized Rage Fire Gatlin Blaster
I saw someone post it on Twitter and I've never hit 'Find at a store near me' faster.
I clicked the link expecting it to be $100. It's only $25?! That's nuts!

What other "unhealthy" activities should be banned for children? Why is 18 the magic age where people are suddenly able to make decisions? Why should the state override the decisions of kids, their parents, and their doctors?
