  1. I understand. It will be interesting to see if that is enough to shrink the sales gap in Europe between Switch and PS4.
  2. 18 units more would be inconsistent with the commentary they have given. Why do you think it is a given that Switch will sell more worldwide?
  3. Yes. Given that Switch is behind PS4 YTD in 2018 already, and that he isn't predicting any Switch games to make the top 10. I thought it was a strange prediction.
  4. I'd love to say that I will go back and give it a fair shake. However, given my Steam backlog, I probably will never get to it...
  5. Fortunately, most other games didn't adopt RE4's controls... They ruined the game for me. I wish it was a game I could have loved.
  6. I didn't get the season pass on this one -- just the vanilla game. It has a little bit of a weak start, but I expect it to get better as I start to unlock the skill tree....
  7. No. I don't think I have said anything about "games as a whole". I'm not sure I've thought about it enough to even have a point of view. My point of view is that progressing technology is an enabler that has allowed devs to make even better games. As well, the "game-making craft" [for lack of a better term] has progressed, partially because developers have taken the learnings from other games and continue to improve upon them. The "best games" continue to get better. I continue to be "surprised and delighted" by the new experiences that the best game developers make. However, bad games continue to be made. Bad decisions continue to be made by some developers. Shovelware continues to be made.
  8. Playing God of War (mopping up side quests) -- trying to decide when I should start tackling Valkyries (I tried one while I was a low level 5, and coultdn't get her more than 75% down after 3-4 goes...) Finished the campaign for CoD: Infinite Warfare over the weekend. Started up Watch_Dogs 2...
  9. I excluded "Switch" because it has so few "great games" that I want to play and such a small library. I don't really like Platforming games, so it is hard for me to justify buying a console just to play Zelda. In my opinion, in most genres, PS4/XB1 has the majority of the "best" games of all time. I am too lazy to write a long diatribe on what they are and why I think each of them are the best. I have also been pretty clear in my follow up posts on what "genre" meant in my original post (with a link to the Wikipedia page on video game genres).
  10. I have a theory that everyone has a soft spot in their heart for the games they played between the ages of 10-16 --- for me that was primarily the Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga....
  11. Sure. Those, and more popular ones today like FPSs, survival horror, RPGs, platformers, metroidvanias, etc. It's wide open for debate. Games have gotten graphically prettier this gen and bigger in scope, but that's not always going to be enough to better the previous few gens' highlights. Correct. My original point was clearly that all potential detailed genres were best on PS4, -- I clearly meant that the best trackball-controlled marble game was on PS4/XB1. Games have gotten better in many ways -- UI is getting better as designers learn from other designers, scripts have gotten better as better writters have been hired, voice acting has gotten better as better voice actors have been hired, AI has gotten better as programmers have learned what others have done, etc. How successful was it?
  12. Text adventures, LCD handheld games, platformers that feature a blue hedgehog, sides-scrolling beat-'em ups, isometric shooters, arcade hockey games, paddle controlled tennis games, etc.
  13. No -- should I be? I won't get in a debate with you over the benefits of the last 20 years of technology and game design. And what that has allowed development teams to do. I am also not going to get in a debate with you on what makes a genre. "Holding-Up" is a subjective thing -- I am certainly not being critical of Chrono Trigger -- and it was one of the greatest games of its time. But, to illustrate my original point. If it was released today on PS4 for the first time -- exactly as it was released on SNES in '95 - fpr $60. Do you thing it would be widely recognized as one of the best RPGs of all time? Would it be in the conversation for GOTY in 2018?
  14. If you decide to create super-specific subgenres that don't have modern AAA games -- you can make the argument that PS4/XboxOne have the best in almost every genre. While you could make the same argument for some of Switch's games (i.e. Mario, Zelda) , it's library is still too limited for me to put it in the same category. But I'm not sure its valuable to get into a debate in this thread on why I think Forza Horizon 3 is a better racing game than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and F-Zero. Or that if Chrono Trigger were to be released in 2018 for $60, exactly as it was on SNES, very few people would put it in the same "echelon" as modern RPGs such as Persona 5, Witcher 3 or Horizon:ZD.
  15. I have the cube -- and I agree the biggest advantage is that Alexa>Cortana. Up until 2 weeks ago, Xbox was my streaming box....
  16. My favourite console of all time has to either be the PS4 or Xbox1 -- both have the best examples of video games in almost every genre. If you were to ask me to answer this question 5 years from now, I fully expect to answer PS5 of XboxNext. Games are just continually getting so much better, year-on-year. If you were to ask me which was the best "in its day" -- the PS2 consistently had the most and best games. Because game development has gotten so expensive, I don't think we will ever get that much high quality software coming out on an ongoing basis, ever again.
  17. I can understand the criticism of this year’s first half output - Japanese games generally don’t appeal to my tastes. However, this fall and spring-‘19 look epic (for me).
