  1. Yes. But a Freesync monitor won't work with any video card you would want to use. (I haven't seen an HDR Freesync monitor for quite that cheap, and I was seeing $600 ones, but they were only 60Hz refresh....)
  2. God of War has a 94 Metacritic Monster Hunter: World has a 90 Metacritic Far Cry 5 has an 81 Metacritic (and is the best selling game in 2018) Every single game that was on Matt's list for a top ten game is available on PS4. All of the top 8 best selling games of 2018 are available on PS4. 9 of the top 10 best selling games over the last 12 months are available on PS4. They may not be to your taste, but people are buying them.
  3. Always be careful about refurbished TVs. While some are in perfect condition, others may have cosmetic damage, dead pixels, burn-in, etc. I have purchased a number of refurbished small appliances, but I wouldn't touch a refurbished TV.
  4. I understand. It will be interesting to see if that is enough to shrink the sales gap in Europe between Switch and PS4.
  5. 18 units more would be inconsistent with the commentary they have given. Why do you think it is a given that Switch will sell more worldwide?
  6. Yes. Given that Switch is behind PS4 YTD in 2018 already, and that he isn't predicting any Switch games to make the top 10. I thought it was a strange prediction.
  7. I'd love to say that I will go back and give it a fair shake. However, given my Steam backlog, I probably will never get to it...
  8. Fortunately, most other games didn't adopt RE4's controls... They ruined the game for me. I wish it was a game I could have loved.
  9. I didn't get the season pass on this one -- just the vanilla game. It has a little bit of a weak start, but I expect it to get better as I start to unlock the skill tree....
  10. No. I don't think I have said anything about "games as a whole". I'm not sure I've thought about it enough to even have a point of view. My point of view is that progressing technology is an enabler that has allowed devs to make even better games. As well, the "game-making craft" [for lack of a better term] has progressed, partially because developers have taken the learnings from other games and continue to improve upon them. The "best games" continue to get better. I continue to be "surprised and delighted" by the new experiences that the best game developers make. However, bad games continue to be made. Bad decisions continue to be made by some developers. Shovelware continues to be made.
  11. Playing God of War (mopping up side quests) -- trying to decide when I should start tackling Valkyries (I tried one while I was a low level 5, and coultdn't get her more than 75% down after 3-4 goes...) Finished the campaign for CoD: Infinite Warfare over the weekend. Started up Watch_Dogs 2...
  12. I excluded "Switch" because it has so few "great games" that I want to play and such a small library. I don't really like Platforming games, so it is hard for me to justify buying a console just to play Zelda. In my opinion, in most genres, PS4/XB1 has the majority of the "best" games of all time. I am too lazy to write a long diatribe on what they are and why I think each of them are the best. I have also been pretty clear in my follow up posts on what "genre" meant in my original post (with a link to the Wikipedia page on video game genres).
  13. I have a theory that everyone has a soft spot in their heart for the games they played between the ages of 10-16 --- for me that was primarily the Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga....
  14. Sure. Those, and more popular ones today like FPSs, survival horror, RPGs, platformers, metroidvanias, etc. It's wide open for debate. Games have gotten graphically prettier this gen and bigger in scope, but that's not always going to be enough to better the previous few gens' highlights. Correct. My original point was clearly that all potential detailed genres were best on PS4, -- I clearly meant that the best trackball-controlled marble game was on PS4/XB1. Games have gotten better in many ways -- UI is getting better as designers learn from other designers, scripts have gotten better as better writters have been hired, voice acting has gotten better as better voice actors have been hired, AI has gotten better as programmers have learned what others have done, etc. How successful was it?
  15. Text adventures, LCD handheld games, platformers that feature a blue hedgehog, sides-scrolling beat-'em ups, isometric shooters, arcade hockey games, paddle controlled tennis games, etc.
