  1. Fuck big business! Shop local! Also: If local businesses can't support $15 an hour, fuck them! They deserve to go out of business! ...Meanwhile, you have big business starting to lobby for higher minimum wages, because they CAN support higher wages AND it decreases the amount of competition from local and small business who cannot afford the sudden increase in labor costs.
  2. It's too bad the prosecution was not allowed to enter into evidence the carbon monoxide blood test results. But I also understand the Judge's position on it, and was quite shocked that he would immediately call a mistrial if it was brought up during closing arguments. Harsh. But fair.
  3. Fantastic news. Unfortunately this will probably not sway people who are otherwise refusing to get the vaccine.
  4. The appropriate response after 9/11 would have been for the US to pay Iran and Pakistan to go into Afghanistan and fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda. And after they get done with those two groups, we could've turned Iran and Pakistan against each other.
  5. This meme would also apply because the police officer has a Hispanic name, and the Army officer is black.
  6. Former officer Kim Brooks charged with 2nd degree manslaughter. Good.
  7. The prosecution did a good job of cross examining the defense's expert witness, and (IMO) tore apart the narrative that this was George Floyd's fault somehow.
  8. Saying that the reason the officer shot this man is because of a mistake, or lacked training, is not absolving the officer, at least in my opinion. It's giving a reason why she did it, and she should be appropriately punished because she negligently/accidentally killed a man. To claim this was no accident, or that this was intentional, means this was murder, and no jury would convict her of murder, given the audio/video evidence.
  9. My wife definitely didn't like the side effects I had with the second dose of the Moderna, so that tied together with the ease of a single dose led her to get the J&J vaccine. She felt a little groggy the next day, but appears to be back to normal.
  10. The US and EU largely funded and developed all of these vaccines. It's hardly surprising they would claim dibs on a majority of what is produced.
  11. It's the only logical conclusion. To believe she otherwise KNEW she pulled her gun and put on the best acting performance of her life is...incredible? If you believe that, then what she committed was murder...And that's going to be hard sell in front of a jury. The state would be better off charging her with manslaughter as that will be so much easier to convince a jury, and she'll spend the next 5 to 15 in state prison. Charging her with murder will simply result in acquittal and she'll walk free.
  12. I could see this being the case. Hopefully it eventually mutates into something more benign. BUT I won't put any money on that actually coming true.
  13. I will not be surprised if this happens. Also, I will not be surprised if the EU, NATO, and the US do nothing about. But then again, there is nothing that can really be done, aside from strongly worded letters and sanctions.
  14. A Chief of Police making off-the-cuff remarks one way or another at a press conference could very likely derail any potential prosecution of the shooter though. He's smart not to make any heavy handed comments in support of, or against, the police officer.
  15. Cops should be limited to the same firearm restrictions as civilians.
  16. Yes. Police always carry with a round chambered. This is standard procedure world-wide where police are armed. The only exception that I'm aware of is in Israel with certain security forces there.
  17. There is a press conference about this shooting right now. The video seems pretty clear to me - the officer intended to taser Daunte, but accidentally withdrew her pistol and shot him instead. This is clearly due to a lack of adequate training with this particular officer, and I hope she is charged with manslaughter.
