  1. My wife was able to grab an appointment for the J&J vaccine at a nearby Albertsons on the 7th. She was previously signed up for Moderna on the same day, but the J&J will work out better for her, because we plan on driving down to San Diego the 2nd week of May for her father's funeral/ash scattering. This will ensure she is fully protected by the time we go down there. Our daughter restarts in-school class on the 6th, and one of our fears is that she bring the virus home. The district says they will have a strict mask policy, and for fourth graders, I think they'll be pretty successful. I think the district is going to have issues with kindergarten through 2nd grade though. Anyways...Hopefully my wife builds up SOME immunity after her shot and after our daughter goes back to school.
  2. I don't think the answer is to hand more money to telcos to MAYBE built out this additional infrastructure. With Starlink entering service now, and at least 2 other companies planning to start launching low earth orbit broadband satellite networks, we should have blanket coverage in the next few years.
  3. The answer isn't to have the Supreme Court twist existing law to fit the modern problem. The answer is to have Congress create a law (or update the existing one) to cover this emerging scenario.
  4. We've been pretty fortunate - if you leave Vegas (on any day besides a Sunday) at around 9 or 10, you usually don't run into any traffic jams once you get down to San Bernardino/Riverside. If you leave Vegas any later than noon you are pretty much guaranteed to hit a traffic wall before Riverside. Coming back the other direction we've never had very many slow downs. But whatever you do DO NOT drive from Vegas on a Sunday. traffic sucks ass starting at Primm because all of the California residents are trying to make it back home from their weekend in Vegas.
  5. Having to pay $160 a month for JUST high speed internet (with no data cap) from Cox is not "just fine" in my opinion. It's lunacy.
  6. This clown has had the opportunity to get the vaccine for some time now and she still contracted the virus.
  7. Consider buying an ozone generator. You wouldn't want to be in the house while it is running, but it should help reduce the likelihood of viruses sticking around in the air or on surfaces. Ozone was effective at killing SARS (a coronavirus variant), so it's likely effective against COVID19.
  8. Raising taxes on 400k and above is an absolute winner. I'm less enthusiastic about raising the corporate tax. In fact, the corporate tax should be zero, and be compensated for in raising taxes even more on 400k and above.
  9. The good Dakota is the only state in the lower 48 that won't have Amtrack service!
  10. My wife is tentatively getting the first Moderna on the 6th, but she is looking all the time to see if she can get the J&J vaccine instead.
  11. That's true. I'm not necessarily advocating for NEW roads or anything like that. But since we have existing roads and other infrastructure that are falling apart, it only makes sense to maintain and upgrade them. That, combined with increased investments in electrical vehicles and charging network, are probably North America's best bets.
  12. Property rights and NIMBYism kill this type of endeavor in America, and I would argue in Canada as well. I'm not even sure property rights is really a thing in many asian countries as we know it in America.
  13. It's a boondoggle that is way over budget and will never actually achieve anything close to what voters approved of several years back. They might as well have built two for twice the price and have Jodie Foster be the conductor for the maiden drive.
  14. Get your heads out of your asses! Small electric planes are the future of intercity transit. Although I'd personally like to see more dirigibles in the air.
  15. The California high speed rail project would like to have a word with you.
  16. Because it's less convenient, and often times slower, than other modes of transport. If I wanted to take rail from Las Vegas to San Diego, there will not be a direct, non-stop route. It's going to probably make stops in Barstow, Victorville, 3 (or more) stops in Los Angeles, and Orange County before actually arriving in San Diego. Direct flights are offered a dozen times a day between these two cities, and I can drive down to San Diego in about 5 hours if I time it right to not get stuck in Riverside.
  17. Some points: Upgrading electrical infrastructure and investing in electrical vehicles is a huge plus. But inter-city rail? That is just pipe-dream boondoggle.
