  1. The only speech worth protecting is the speech that everyone agrees with. Canada to Make Online Hate Speech a Crime Punishable by $16,000 Fine GIZMODO.COM The proposed law would likely run afoul of the First Amendment in the U.S., but despite popular misconceptions Canada is actually its own country.
  2. They were metric doses though - 1.6 Canadian doses is equivalent to 1 Freedom dose.
  3. I do wonder if my wife got the delta variant. Seeing as how she got the J&J vaccine back in April, she is theoretically protected, but the trial data showed that you still had a chance to contract the virus, albeit with a very low probability of hospitalization or worse. She has some underlying health issues, but all things considered, she's faring well. Our daughter is back to 100%, and I'll get her tested today. I have never had any symptoms, so my Moderna vaccine was probably highly effective.
  4. The thing about trees that provide shade to a house is that if they are too close to the house, they can do massive damage to the foundation/basement walls of the house. At our last house in Oregon, we had to cut down an elm tree that was ~8 feet from the side of the house, because the roots were forcing the basement wall to heave in. If we continued to let it grow, it would have cause further structural damage. So you may think your landlord was being a dick for cutting down a tree, but in reality they were probably just protecting their house from structural damage.
  5. With the Fahrenheit temperature system, I always imagined that Mr. Fahrenheit based his scale what what he felt/knew the minimum and maximum temperatures experienced in London. So the coldest of cold days would be considered 0 degrees, and the hottest of hot days would be 100. I'm pretty sure he was just throwing shit at the wall, but I like to justify the scale somehow. Also I'm pretty sure he wasn't even English.
  6. I will say that this is a step in the right direction - previously the government wouldn't even confirm or deny there have been sightings.
  7. ...But doesn't know where the hell they come from. US intelligence community releases long-awaited UFO report WWW.CNN.COM The US intelligence community on Friday released its long-awaited report on what it knows about a series of mysterious flying objects that have been seen moving through restricted military airspace over the last several decades.
  8. Republicans aren't thinking strategically here. If they were smart, they would fully support the infrastructure bill, but let the Dems pass the reconciliation bill along party lines, so that way the GOP can campaign against the reconciliation bill in 2022.
  9. Double negative. So there IS going to be a bipartisan bill.
  10. A few years ago I stayed at a AirBnB in a high rise in San Diego, right on the beach. I'm noping out of staying in one again, for sure. It even had a basement garage under the building.
  11. Horrible. I know that a building is not infrastructure per se, but I hope this incident spurs Congress into passing the bipartisan infrastructure bill. If an apartment building can collapse like this, so can our worn out bridges and other pieces of infrastructure.
  12. Why the fuck do all these Q followers say they have info on all of these evil baby eating politicians, but never bother to release it?
  13. My wife wasn't feeling well this morning, so we got her tested... Positive. She did get the J&J vaccine back in April, and the data suggested it wasn't as effective as the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, but it should still prevent serious sickness. So far she just has some discomfort, and hopefully it doesn't progress any further. I'm still negative and I feel well. Our daughter seems to be fairing well. She was pretty tired most of yesterday, but otherwise in good spirits and she'll hopefully be over it completely soon.
  14. My wife just took her at home test and she came back negative. So that's good! So if she did get infected at some point in the last two weeks, it was a very mild infection and it wasn't very noticeable. Just another reason to get vaccinated. I'll probably take my test tonight or tomorrow.
  15. Our 10 year old daughter has COVID. BUT she was only sick for 2 days or so. She's pretty much back to normal now. We just got back from a trip to WA and we are trying to figure out where she got it from. We contacted everyone she was in contact with, and the good news is that everyone she interacted with, aside from her 10 year old cousin, are vaccinated. My wife felt a little ill the last few days and she may have gotten a mild infection. Coincidentally, she took the J&J vaccine back in April. I have had no symptoms at all and I got both Moderna shots. My company has been pretty cool with COVID - they even gave out FDA approved at-home testing kits from a company called Cue. It's what gave us the results for our daughter. Both my wife and I will take the test later tonight. I cannot return to work without a negative test. The silver lining I think is that since our daughter has gotten COVID, we don't have to worry about when/if she can get the vaccine for the time being. We can also lower our guard a little bit, now that all of us have anti-bodies and don't have to be as concerned over the delta variant.
  16. Our team has been split up for the better part of a year and a half. Later this year, we are moving into our new office building and will be one team again. The nerf wars will be lit. Most of my coworkers are pretty good about hygiene, which is nice.
