The Taliban and America are now BFFs? Or at least as the saying goes: the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The defense of Taiwan would be alright - as long as the people and government of Taiwan want to be defended. Taking the war onto mainland China would be a mistake though for a number of reasons.

My hide was extremely chapped today... My wife's friend from Oregon has a husband who joined the Army last year. He joined, in part, to support his wife and their children. Today, she posted on facebook she needed prayers for the next step in her life. So my wife inquired what it was about, and it's because he intends to refuse the vaccine that the DoD has mandated for all members of the military. W. T. F. He understands that he'll be discharged for this. But I'm not sure they've calculated what it will ultimately cost them in terms of benefits (like free healthcare) and guaranteed income. He's a medic, so I guess good luck trying to find a job in the medical field that will not require the vaccine. They just bought a $40k car too. The cognitive dissonance is amazing. Just last year, he allowed the military to slam the better part of a dozen different vaccines into his body that I doubt he read up on and understood the risks of. And he's taking a stand on this one? One that will protect him and other around him?

My company has been really helpful with testing. They've allowed all employees to order these at-home testing kits, which are incredibly handy and accurate. My household has used it multiple times to check our covid status - in fact it's what we used to confirm that my wife and daughter were positive back in June. I have no idea how much each test costs, but I'm thankful my company has purchased them for us.

Tesla Bot - The future race of Earth
mclumber1 replied to Brian's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
Robotics is cool. And hopefully robots will be able to do a lot of the tasks humans don't want to do (or shouldn't do) in the near future. This is good for all of you limp wristed antiwork leftists. The more labor we can offload to robots, the more you can sit on your couch and complain about robots taking your jobs, while collecting your UBI checks. The work that Boston Dynamics has done over the last few years is absolutely amazing. I would be surprised if Tesla can surpass what BD has accomplished. -
Won't Biden have to get permission from the Taliban (who are now the government of Afghanistan) permission to bring in more US troops?

Iraq isn't without it's own problems, but it's pretty amazing to see the difference between these two countries. I would never have predicted back in 2005, that by 2021 Iraq would be semi-stable and the Afghanistan government crumble within weeks of the US leaving. I guess oil helps?

TIL. I guess I should have assumed that. One of my Navy buddy's parents evacuated Vietnam in the early 1970s. They were definitely not Catholic.

Weren't a lot of the Vietnamese refugees America accepted Catholic? I'm not saying there is a direct religious component for our apparent willingness to take in Vietnamese allies and unwillingness to take in Afghani allies, but it is interesting to think about.
