  1. I just finished painting and putting my first coat of varnish on the terrain from the launch set, and I also picked up the latest mini releases... despite having painted none of the minis for the game yet
  2. Nobody rational is looking for Stewart to solve the world's political problems and while he is, literally, a comedian, he's also a pundit. It's silly for anyone, particularly him, to pretend otherwise. He's very clearly not "just a comedian" when he's holding a political rally, going to Congress to advocate for taking care of 9/11 first responders, etc. More than one thing can be true and if we're aiming the DeLorean all the way back to the Crossfire appearance era... Stewart was interviewing presidential candidates on The Daily Show, lobbing softballs at John Kerry. In later elections he was giving airtime to Huckabee. It was always silly for Stewart to say he's just a comedian or that TDS was just a comedy show when you're interviewing POTUS candidates. Yes, obviously, an ostensible news outfit should be held to a higher standard than Comedy Central. Fucking of course. But if Stewart's responsibility is to be funny, then the shots he's taking at Biden for being old should... be funny.
  3. I think Stewart is at "his worst" or perhaps his least interesting when he appeals to what he believes to be common sense issues. It's why the Rally to Restore Sanity And / Or Fear was so goofy. I don't think pointing out that Biden is old the way he did on his first episode back is really that but I also don't think he had a particularly insightful take on the topic, either. It was mainly "bad" because it wasn't especially interesting. He's still better at what he's doing than a lot of people who have come up or at least tried to fill that gap since... I don't know that the world needs what feels like the ten billionth Jordan Klepper interview with incredulous Trump supporters. I just don't know that there's more to this return than comfort food. Which is totally fine, I appreciate that he's back. It seems unlikely that folks like Seth Meyers would be doing Closer Looks the way he is without Stewart's TDS run, and obviously someone like John Oliver wouldn't. I'm rambling and I don't really even know that I have a point, other than that while I think that Stewart can waffle, I don't think that's what was happening when he first came back. That said... I do think there's some truth to this. I get sticking up for your friends and for your industry. But for a dude who rightly took shit and then apologized for leaning into trans jokes for a long time, it's disappointing to see Stewart stand up for Dave's "right" to say what he wants... as if that's any of what the criticism about Chappelle's bullshit trans takes is actually about. Stewart is just straight up equivocating there and he's smart enough to know that's what he's doing.
  4. Will finally fix BG3's most glaring flaw; 100% of women don'r have huge dump truck booties and tits so huge they compromise the structural integrity of metal armor.
  5. Again, this is so foolish, and gross. If frozen embryos are children, the people who provided the eggs and sperm should be arrested for handing over several of their children to be indefinitely incarcerated. The clinic itself should beheld accountable for the mass incarceration of children. And to avoid half measures... what do we do about the children who are currently incarcerated at the clinic? They're essentially children in suspended animation at this point, shouldn't whoever contributed the egg be compelled to attempt to bring all of their fertilized embryos to term to end their imprisonment? This whole position is appalling and unjustifiable.
  6. I don't know that the N64 or Gamecube would be considered "big failures." They didn't end up hanging with the PSX and PS2 sales numbers, but... nothing did or would have, really. The Wii U and Virtual Boy were bombs, there's no denying that.
  7. Aside from all this, it's continually interesting that gaming rarely gets mainstream media coverage despite being an incredibly mainstream hobby. I have no idea if it's because of the general erosion of journalism, if it's still seen as "just games" to not warrant more serious coverage, a lack of perceived market for that content... who knows.
  8. This, 1000x this. Again, if the states making these rulings or changing laws around reproductive health truly cared about children and not just reproductive control... they'd raise taxes to help fund child or parent welfare programs, not be opposed to slashing things like school lunch programs, promote sex education to reduce unwanted pregnancies, etc. But that never happens in these cases, because it's demonstrably NOT about "the children." There's decades of ink spilled on this stuff. I've no doubt for some individuals, yes, it's about protecting "children" or "life." But that's absolutely not what shit like what inspired this thread is about, and there is is so much evidence to support that. There is no reason to provide a charitable interpretation to any of this. It is about reproductive control. Full stop.
  9. I wonder about the extent to which Nintendo embodies this meme for most of the posters here (which is now 3+ years old at least): The Wii was released almost 20 years ago now, there are many people who have no real memory of Nintendo hardware being anything other than a Nintendo adapter. And to that extent, the value proposition for the hardware isn't really relevant; there's no other way to get at that content, so... what are you going to do? Most people that buy the thing aren't trying to do an apples to apples comparison. Their only real flubs in my lifetime are the absolute bungling of the Wii U in every way and initially launching the DS at too high a price point. Beyond that, they're the same company that needed Sega to come along and make the Genesis or we'd all still be playing on the NES. Aside from that, their whole thing is shit like... Eiji Aonuma has been making Zelda games since 1998. I don't think you get games like BotW and TotK without someone who has so much experience with one franchise riffing it into contemporary trends. Kinda like Balrog with God of War, I don't think you can chase that, you need the experience. Nintendo just has more people like that than anyone else.
  10. I think he’s made voiced some vague “concerns” about censorship and the like when Chappelle was being criticized for antisemitism. I don’t think he literally said he was concerned about “cancel culture going too far” but he was voicing similar complaints. Comedians in general are at no real risk of being censored and Chappelle is certainly less so than almost anyone else in comedy, so that objection specifically is weak. I don’t think Stewart engages in the kind of shitty bothsidesisms that, say, South Park did with the giant douche vs turd sandwich stupidity. But you know, the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear was a thing and he went in Maddow afterward and I believe literally said that both sides have ways to shut down debate… so I don’t think it’s super surprising that Stewart occasionally gets this rep.
  11. This kind of stupid fucking shit is why I maintain that trying to “not spoil” adaptations of 50 year old media is just... so silly. Why?? Why so much work?? Who cares! The notion that time, money, and energy would be spent through 2024 to keep a casting “secret” for a film adaptation of a book that came out when Lyndon B. Johnson was president absolutely boggles my mind. What a world.
  12. No. Birth control can fail. Barrier methods can break or not be used correctly. Hormonal methods are not perfect, nor are IUDs. And so on. If penetrative, vaginal sex could result in a fertilized embryo, why does that potential “child” matter less simply because its existence is less probable? Intentionality makes it manslaughter, not murder. But you can’t play the “that’s just how biology works” card simply because it would make things inconvenient or legally impractical. EDIT - the simple reality is that if a fertilized embryo is a child, then any fertility clinic that does IVF is participating in the indefinite incarceration and eventual mass execution of children, and the process is one of the greatest moral sins humanity has ever undertaken.
  13. The notion that a fertilized embryo is "a child" is absolutely fucking batshit, as it implicates anyone who has ever had a miscarriage or who had a fertilized egg fail to implant on the uterine wall, which is almost everyone who has ever brought a pregnancy to term, as someone who committed manslaughter. This shit is completely unhinged, and the push for rulings like is only takes place because of the misogynistic and patriarchal desire to control reproduction. It's despicable.
  14. It's pretty great. Depending on the difficulty and how many people you've dropped with, the game isn't always super well equipped to handle players that are on high structures, so you can pick things off as they chase your buddies around. It works pretty well that way against bugs. Less useful against robots in my experience, since some of them can just blast rockets at you.
  15. It's all grandest stupidity. Imagine if the thing you did for fun... made shit you could sell to people! And they hope people don't realize it's just an MLM for dudes. At least with real MLMs, the skincare products or detox dust actually exists, I suppose.
  16. Must be a huge pain in the ass to get into full PPE every time you administer it, what with accidental proximity being potentially fatal and whatnot.
  17. I have a bobblehead as well, though I'm ticker than Gaetz is. The problem with the people I mentioned is definitely the fit of the suits. That jacket doesn't fit. It should be in the Hague for defying the Geneva Conventions against torture for what it's doing to that button. And while there's nothing wrong with a slim fitting pant, it just doesn't work with that jacket. He looks like one of those popsicles with two sticks. I think the issue with that list of people is they have the assumption that because they're slim, they need to dress to emphasize that and lean into it too hard, or feel that slimness makes whatever they're wearing look good. I appreciate that fashion is generational and a lot of people dress so they don't look like the preceding generation; a lot of younger people are wearing looser suits again, for example. But his stuff just... doesn't fit.
  18. Juggernaut's did, I think, yes. Magneto's helmet at some point back in the day kinda gave him telepathic powers, or something like them?
