Nice, thanks for the impressions. If you end up getting paint on the minis, show them off!

I don’t dispute that, but I think that lost in the memes, the stonks, and the tendies is the notion that while some hedge funds got washed, “Wall Street” fattened the bag with the tremendous trade activity that went on, and that individuals who chase trends in the interest of getting rich quickly via day trading are almost always going to get worked. Not everyone is going into the venture with their Snapple money, people popping off about holding and shit going to the moon need SOMEONE to be the mark, “TO THE MOON,” and talking about how this is a crusade is a way for sharps to get fish to ante up. You really wanna fuck over hedge funds, elect representatives that are motivated to regulate them. Anything else is playing whack a mole with one hand and shooting at the craps table with the other. I know which is more fun, I know which is easier to do. Let’s also not pretend that the industry being fucked with didn’t just absolutely thrive through a debilitating recession... hedge funds are going to be fine.

GOW 2018 is absolutely more ambitious than the games that preceded it in the series. But GOW2 succeeds at everything it attempts to do more so than GOW 2018 does. And yeah, it’s fucking dumb, sure. Kratos fucks women until they cum health orbs, he’s a complete moron 100% of the time, etc. But the action is better in GOW2, the pacing is MUCH better in GOW2. Does the story have aspirations as lofty as 2018? No, but again, I’d say argue that GOW2 better realizes its raison d’etre better than 2018 does. Kratos has another wife fridged, her motivations area largely unknown, the primary motivation of the antagonists is unclear, etc. GOW 2018 is a REALLY GOOD game, I just don’t think it succeeds at what it attempted to do as well as GOW2 did. I suppose it gets a couple more points for being more ambitious, but I’d rather have a tighter, better executed game than one that aims higher and doesn’t hit the mark quite as true.

but this was about sticking it to hedge funds and proving the little guy could make a difference and other falsehoods

I just saw this. And I agree in general, yeah. I’ve got good memories of chats with Tali, Liara, Mordin, etc. But I can relive those in YouTube without playing 50 hours of game to get to them. I think I’d get more out of watching someone stream this than playing it myself, since I can be doing something else while it’s going on. I know that’s damning with faint praise, and I REALLY liked Mass Effect. But the combat is just literally never, ever interesting.

You definitely don’t need those moves on the hardest difficulty, either. It’s been a while since I played, but I remember my issue being that a lot of the moves seemed to increase your positioning ability, either by kicking you back, or pushing enemies back... and I just never felt like any enemy required that level of management. It’s still a very good game, I just don’t think it’s a masterpiece or anything. Its reception confirms my bias that showing strong men who have genuine emotional bonds with other characters is all a game needs to get a glowing reception for its characters which says an awful lot about our standards for games, media, and men... And if you put that in an well produced game people you can just rake in the awards.

Honestly almost everything about the story beats in Mass Effect 2 and 3 are cowardly to the point of comedy, it’s just all dressed up super pretty in the game with space pew pew pew that it gets glossed over. Suicide mission? Everyone can live super easily. Warring factions that have hated one another for god knows how long? A couple dialog options solves that. It’s all engaging in the moment and I really enjoy it, it’s just so... safe.

Yeah, this shit is real. Again it’s always well acted, but by the end of the game... I fucking get it, Kratos sucks at storytelling. God of War 2 is probably still the best in the series. It’s less ambitious than some of the stuff that came after it but I think it’s the best at understanding what it wanted to be and really focusing on delivering that specifically. God of War 2018 is almost always very good, it’s just a bit too ambitious and a bit unfocused.

Any impressions? And are you gonna paint the minis? A few people have called out that they don’t love the “round limit” (not sure exactly what mechanism it uses) but in a tabletop version of the game... I don’t know else anyone could introduce meaningful stakes kind since in Souls games death is generally meaningless.

Delay it until the trilogy doesn’t end with choices between a dry fart, a wet fart, a silent but deadly fart, and fart that puts you at risk of rectal prolapse.

The camera in GOW is generally fine but occasionally VERY bad. One, maybe two of the Valkyrie fights in particular were made needlessly difficult (on the hardest difficulty at least) only because the camera angle was poor. Some of the flying enemies were pretty bad to manage the camera against as well. I appreciate that the game hided loading times behind the sometimes very entertaining / always very well acted storytime sequences... but there’s a LOT of downtime in the game because of it. I don’t know that it ever really earned its openness... I don’t think it hurt the game overall but I dunno that it was necessarily better for it, either. For a game where most of the hook is the fighting, I felt like an awful lot of the combat upgrades just weren’t that useful or compelling. Also for a game where the main thing stopping the protagonists completing what would otherwise be a somewhat leisurely journey is the combat... we’re never really given a compelling reason for why anyone is fucking with Kratos at all? We learn who Baldur was looking for at the start, but that doesn’t really explain why almost everyone and everything else tries to kill them on sight. All that said, I’ll fire it up on the PS5 to poke around with the updates, I don’t think I ever did a NG+ run.

Sony Anybody here own Control Ultimate Edition on PS5?

Won’t SOMEONE think of the stonks? EDIT - in addition to the extent to which many of these drugs are funded from public money, there’s also an extent to which many of the people working at these places don’t own a piece of the company, their bonus incentives aren’t tied to things like “breakthroughs” because they rarely happen, etc. I’m not opposed to people / companies making money off this stuff (it’s my industry, by and large ), but anyone who goes, “our IP tho,” when considering how quickly we can make the only preventative measure for a pandemic should be shown the door, first from their company, and then potentially from this mortal coil.
