  1. Demo drops on Friday. There were giant cat lasers and a large pig that blew up and turned into smaller pigs. I think those are the most important bits. The game actually looks great. I don't know why, but this game sort of fell off my radar for a bit.
  2. Didn't they reboot the Wolfenstein story into an alternate timeline at some point? If not then, yeah, Wolfenstein wins. Zelda doesn't count. It's alternating timelines and different people set over thousands of years. Metroid is a straight timeline with no diversions. It's wildly rare to see in any media, let alone games. Just think about how many games would even fall into this category. Elder Scrolls? They started in the early-90s and are still on the same timeline. Resident Evil started in mid-90s.
  3. Another thing to consider is that Metroid is an outlier when it comes to major Nintendo franchises. For some reason, Nintendo thinks every entry in a game has to be changed in some new and unique way. Even Mario Kart needs some unique gimmick added every generation, even if that's just adding a second driver or hover mechanics that don't really change anything but the view. This has been great to keep some franchises like Mario feeling fresh even after so many decades. It's been terrible got some franchises like F-Zero, Wave Race, and 1080 that Nintendo feels they can't really add anything to. You can tell that after Metroid Prime Nintendo thought they figured out the formula and went all out with new types of Metroid games. The following decade have us everything from pinball to a multiplayer FPS to whatever isometric thing Other M was. After that died down the next decade was, what? A remake and a really cheaply thrown together Federation Force?
  4. I think I may have mentioned this elsewhere, but I think Nintendo's problem was that they wanted to save money and not go with a full home console release. Metroid isn't exactly one of Nintendo's best sellers and they likely thought a home console side scroller would exasperate things. They, obviously, missed the DS they were originally targeting, but they did hit the 3DS with Samus Returns as a test for giving Dread to MercurySteam. Outsourcing to MercurySteam is absolutely cheaper for them than developing the game internally. That just winds up being this weird 15 year gap between the start of the DS and then 5 years into the Switch. That's a lot of words to read that the DS couldn't do it, the 3DS was likely possible, but by that time MercurySteam had popped up as a happy test to outsource all the development for less money. Also Nintendo doesn't trust Metroid to sell all that well, and I don't blame them. I mean, I love Metroid. I've been playing Metroid games since my first taste in the 80s on the NES. Super Metroid is the second game I ever replayed immediately after beating it on the SNES. The first was Star Fox. But like...they don't sell well. Nintendo should really expand the Metroid universe. Do more stuff like Federation Force, but better. Metroid has Nintendo richest story. It's also, I believe, the longest running story arc in gaming...I can't think of anything that's run longer. Nintendo should lean into it. Metroid should be their Star Wars, but it isn't because they don't care.
  5. As a guy that worked for a French company full of Frenchmen...I can't remember how many times I've told them they can't be trusted and how many times they agreed.
  6. I would love to know what exactly Nintendo shared with MercurySteam. I imagine they shared the story and probably some character designs, but I wonder if there was anything more than just concept art. It would be interesting to see how anything developed for the DS was reimagined for the Switch. Then again, we don't even know if this game ever even got very far into development on the DS.
  7. It hasn't been in development for 15 years. Development began 15 years ago and then the game was put on hold, indefinitely. This isn't Duke Nukem Forever where development was ongoing and then restarted multiple times. It was begun and then shelved until now.
  8. Couldn't they both be summarized as humans opened a portal to another world which leads to them being overrun by murderous demons/aliens?
  9. Nice first step. Now, how about allowing athletes to make money on their own? Even if all schools colluded together to not pay their players, they should still be able to sell autographs or do terrible, local commercials.
  10. I don't remember slips at any of my local TRU. They went from looking like those pictures to just sticking everything behind glass.
  11. Toys R Us was always the place to go to buy Nintendo consoles. It's where I bought my N64, GCN, Wii, and Wii U. Prior to that, it was all Child World for me. They died out in the early-mid 90s, though. Those castle stores were the best.
  12. The Pokemon Company has already said that the game will be free to play with stuff like cosmetics being for sale. I expect cute little hats and maybe even shiny skins.
  13. The first and third games are up, so they likely wouldn't bother. Knowing Nintendo, it's something stupid like they haven't figured out how to cleanly make Joycon versions for the GB/A and N64 controls and that's what's delaying them adding those consoles to Nintendo online.
  14. What really sucks about Star Fox Zero is that it was a phenomenal Star Fox games crippled by terrible controls. It's the number one Wii U game that I think would do really well with a Switch port.
  15. No, that was Major, the one of Biden's two dogs that was a rescue. He's also a German Shepherd.
  16. ‘Perfect Strangers’: Robin Thede & London Hughes To Lead Reboot Of ‘80s Comedy In The Works At HBO Max DEADLINE.COM Perfect Strangers, the 1980s sitcom starring Mark Linn-Baker and Bronson Pinchot, is the latest classic comedy to get a reboot – with Robin Thede and London Hughes set as leads. The project, which … This will likely be terrible to a degree that is hard to put in words, but it's also Robin Thede and she's great. I'm very conflicted here.
  17. Here's my take... Daredevil - Strong start, weak and racist finish. Jessica Jones - Would have been better if Netflix has realized they could just make seasons shorter. Season 2? I don't believe you. Luke Cage - if you only have Mahershala Ali contracted for like 8 episodes then you make an 8 episode season. There was more after the first season? Shut up. Iron Fist - I don't know what this is and you can't make me remember. The Punisher - Not bad, but holy shit Netflix. Every season doesn't have to be so long. Defenders - Thank you for finally realizing you can make a short season. I'm sure it only happened because their editors were threatening to kill themselves. Agents of SHIELD - Slow start, but great middle. Once they realize that Marvel had left them out to dry they did their own thing. That sometimes worked phenomenally. It sometimes didn't. Agent Carter - Good, but also too long. Entirely forgettable. Inhumans - This never happened. It's a fever dream that you think it did. Runaways - Fantastic up until they ran away. It kind of lost itself in CW melodrama one that happened. Cloak & Dagger - The only one I haven't actually seen a single episode of. Casting looked good...I guess. Legion - Absolutely a fever dream of the best kind. I can honestly barely remember any of it, but I think that was from the contact high.
  18. Remember that scene at the end of the last season of Iron Fist? I don't remember it either, but I'm pretty sure that's because the TVA bombed that timeline out of existence.
  19. You can do that? That's it, I'm turning my backyard into a tomato farm.
  20. What about the format does Sony view as worthless?
  21. Yeah, if Sony thought they were getting their money's worth from E3, they'd put up with it even if higher ups thought it was out dated.
  22. The Pokemon Company skipped E3 this year. Honestly, they might be done with E3. They didn't exactly have a good time at 2019's E3 with toxic fans harassing employees over Dexit.
