Because you don't see with your eyes, you see with your brain. Complicating that is the structure of memories and how they're recalled which is more like pulling up the right metadata. Problem is when the brain's metadata for memories is incredibly similar it can bring up the wrong memory. This is why children often call their teacher's "mom" or parents mix up the names of their kids because this info is all in the same memory bucket and your brain hauls up the bucket rather than the individual memory.

Yeah, I mean, I don't necessarily find fault with what you're saying but even despite the fact that if I had my druthers that I'd be rapid fire shotgunning a new article to the Senate every month I'm still not convinced that a leaner path isn't better.

For better or worse House democrats believe and act as if they are in charge only of their majority in one chamber and not leading the national party. I definitely often complain that they aren't considering national politics or history enough with these decisions but even fully misplaced priorities isn't a sign of weakness.
