  1. Jesus Christ. Like, it's not hard to kill someone instantly and without pain. I am against the death penalty on principle (and it's a giant stain on the US for still having it), but you can instantly kill someone in a variety of ways. Hell, just have a shotgun to the side of the brain. Or just knock them out with anesthetics and give them too much morphine!!!
  2. Dune Messiah: Denis Villeneuve Hopes to End Story as a Trilogy WWW.COMINGSOON.NET Director Denis Villeneuve has opened up about his hopes of concluding the Timothee Chalamet-led Dune films as a trilogy with Dune Messiah.
  3. If this was a parliamentary system, the leader would be able to just say "Oh, sorry Sinema/Manchin, I am not going to allow you to run for the party next time. Byyyyyyyeee!" And then the party would be more homogenous in policy and objectives (and could get things done). At this point I am expecting the final result to be $1.25 trillion for a single cubic mile of poured concrete that will employ 10,000 ex-coal workers in West Virginia. And the land will be coincidentally owned (and bought from) a shell company owned by 75 members of the Senate. It's disgraceful. In Canada she'd get 55% of her previous salary for up to 12-18 months (and potentially topped up to 100% by her employer), and you'd get $570/mo for the kid from the government. And also you'd get to use any of that parental leave as well, if you wanted.
  4. The Strange New Trend That’s Enraging Hiring Managers SLATE.COM My, how the tables have turned.
  5. Would Baldwin potentially be charged? I would imagine as an actor that he would be insulated (since it's not the actor's job to prepare props, etc). But could he be named as a producer since the movie was clearly cutting corners overall?
  6. New cabinet has been sworn in, as mentioned. But let's look at once person in particular—Sean Fraser: How tall is this guy?! He's in the second row but is taller than some people in the third row.
  7. The US is set up in such a way that the government can't really govern. In almost all other developed nations, the winner of the general election controls both the executive and the legislature, and effectively can do what they want (in other words, what they ran on) for 4-5 years. Then, they get judged on that (as well as future promises) in the next election. In the US, because the opposition has sooooo much power to stop anything from happening (by design), politics is about raising money, not doing things.
  8. In Canada the ministers haven't mattered since...what, the 1970s/80s under Trudeau Sr.? Since the 80s, at least, they have effectively been beholden to the PMO. You could argue that perhaps Paul Martin was fairly independent in the 1990s, but I can't think of many others. I mean you still want competent people, I'm just referring to independence and ability to do what they want with the portfolio.
  9. The only places I go right now are work (where I've already had to provide proof of vaccination), the grocery store, and...that's really about it. I've been to Winners/Homesense once this month to get some sweaters. But grocery/retail do not have to check for vaccination, as they are deemed essential by the government. Really it's just for indoor dining, theatres, concerts, large events, liquor stores, weed stores, etc.
  10. Absolutely. I know some people who were waiters (who changed careers during the pandemic), and they said at some points it was pretty much only anti-maskers/vaxxers going to restaurants for dine-in, and they were the worst of the worst customers they've ever waited on. Though perhaps restaurant patronage is down a bit since about 20% of the adult pop is excluded thanks to vaccine passports in my province...I also have to imagine that tips are up by about 1000%.
  11. I haven't played a Halo game since I rented an original Xbox in high school. However, this being on PC—and BF 2042's disappointing changes—definitely have me very interested!
  12. For me personally it's a quality-of-life improvement to not have to be around the unvaccinated, not just protection against the virus
  13. I mean they're already in place in most provinces. I've only had to use mine once, and it was very easy. And it's by far been the single biggest measure to increase first-shot vaccinations.
  14. My favourite is that the vaccine makes you either lose an arm, or gain an arm. Okay...taken to the logical conclusion (I know that's not how these people think), that's a miracle and would make these companies incredibly rich without needing a pandemic to justify the use of the vaccine. Like, imagine if you could just grow extra limbs. I swear to god these people need to take a class in sci-fi/fantasy worldbuilding, they lack imagination for the societal repercussions for their claims (if they were true).
  15. It could be $1.5 trillion for a 3km tall chocolate easter bunny and he'd be okay with it. "Everyone loves chocolate, and we're not putting our grandchildren into bigger debt." And then Sinema would vote against it because it's not white chocolate.
