  1. I have not read the book it is based on, unfortunately. But yeah, I love that scene, but it is rare for him to so concisely summarize something, but it was so well done and emotional. He probably had it for anyone who was getting lost by that point in the movie.
  2. Ah I appreciate the heads up then! And yeah, twice because I'll have to dive back into this world more generally yet again in the next DLC. May as well do it all in one go later.
  3. I should also mention, as people often forget, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, George Clooney's directorial debut, is a Charlie Kaufman solely written joint. His script was compromised and Kaufman doesn't speak much on the final product, only having said that "Clooney ran off with it" but despite whatever that's all about, the movie is quite good and definitely written by Kaufman.
  4. Oh, it isn't price - I don't want to have to re-learn the story and controls twice. So I usually wait until all the DLC is out and then do it in one go, heh. I wouldn't have played the base games of either Control or The Outer Worlds had I known story DLC was incoming but they didn't announce DLC until after awhile each game's release.
  5. I'm definitely still getting it despite the somewhat average reviews since it's a fun, if somewhat sedate, game. I'm just waiting until both DLC packs are released before diving back in (like I did with Control, which I'm almost done AWE after finishing Foundation recently).
  6. With just Red Dead Redemption 2 in my current log, I figured I could play a second game while I wait on Halo 3: ODST and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and so I broke down and bought this game due to the music and nostalgia. It's . . . a great game. I love it. I truly suck at it worse than I remember, but I stopped playing at THPS3 so with the added THPS 3+4 controls with manuals and reverts have really changed the game. I know they can be turned off but I may as well learn. Man, takes me back, the music, the levels, the objectives. But it's all really well done and updated. Bravo dev team. Such an easy, not stressful, pick up and play game. I have no compulsion to 100% it like most games, I'm treating it like an arcade game I hop into when I have a minute or two here or there to spare and play and it seems it's a great way to feast on THPS.
  7. Yes, accurate on all points, I agree, and videos like those on Kaufman are so good, and illuminating. He writes such dense, such good stuff. I mean: Do you not like nice things?!
  8. That's very likely, that makes sense! Those must be some awkward AF recording sessions though now.
  9. They fucking better. Even if it's just on a bunch of different characters' desks who would have it, I'd take that.
  10. Also true. Philly is pretty bad - haven't done much black or Hispanic attended theaters in Jersey though.
  11. It's not a stereotype, it's built into their culture at this point from what I've read and what my Hispanic and black friends tell me at least, so I go off of them. Of course it's not universal for all black and Hispanic people, but I can't think of one time it didn't happen in my personal life.
  12. This is true. It's annoying/irritating as fuck, but, what can one do. I will say it does uniquely make horror films hilarious when I go to heavily black attended movie theaters in Philly. Always a blast, but, uh, the horror movie is never scary if you do go. They react, talk over, and make fun of the horror movie so much that any horror is sucked right out. But it's still fun.
  13. Eh, I've known from the beginning they didn't go the full Zetsunni Runners (inspired by Sunni Muslims) since the book takes place thousands of years into the future (I say this as a Pakistani American raised devout Sunni Muslim). By then, it'd be multicultural. So long as the aesthetic, design, etc. of the culture skews Middle Eastern, that'll be more important. They shot the movie in Jordan, a Middle Eastern country, so I'd be super surprised that Villeneuve wasn't fully aware of this aspect of the Fremen. It's super integral, and being French Canadian whose best movie is about Muslims (Incendies), I don't see how he couldn't know. It's somewhat of a shame because it was such an opportunity to cast Islam and Muslim peoples in a beautiful light, given the book position on the story. But, that could still happen, we'll see. Sometimes, the reality of life is you cast big actors who are at least minorities. As soon as they cast Javier Bardem (Spanish) for Stilgar and Zendaya (half black, half white) for Chani, I knew they were going the pseudo-Dorne route (from Game of Thrones - at least that had Alexander Siddig) of "this is basically Arab/Muslims/Middle Easterners" but with a diverse cast of brown-ish actors than, like, real Muslim actors from those countries. Someday the world will learn Central and South Americans (and Spaniard) actors are not the same brown as Muslims/Arabia/Middle East/South Asia actors. Someday . . . Hey, at least it's not LOTR where the human armies "from the East" all look darker and browner and come in on Oliphants who all side with Sauron. Like, thanks guys, Muslims/brown people are the bad ones again yay. I'm sure a lot of the background Fremen will be brown actors of correct tone and vintage, which is what usually happens, since apparently my race and ethnicity aren't pretty enough for those mug shot roles! Edit: The back half of the novel involves the Fremen much more, with many more Fremen characters, so perhaps the second movie will rectify this.
  14. I whisper respectfully as possible (I usually don't talk at a theater though), but I meant at home/anywhere else, not the actual movie theater. There's no subtitles at the theater, so talking is more distracting. Indeed - though hopefully not at the actual movie theater. Elsewhere, for sure! I'm guilty.
  15. Agreed - and what will help I think is by the time this releases, since it was one of the last pre-Covid blockbuster shoots to finish, people will be starved for "epic" content. I hope it gets us at least the second film! This post echoes my thoughts better exactly. I'm so cautious, but I want to buy in.
  16. Same! Games it's even more important with all the incidental dialogue. It's honestly the only way to do it for me. You get all the story, you miss nothing, your reading and vocabulary improve, and eventually you get fast enough at reading that you don't even miss anything visually. It also allows more talking to occur amongst the audience without missing anything, since it's easy to talk and read than to talk and listen at the same time.
  17. I watch every movie with subtitles. Hard to understand accents is more subjective to each person than Nolan's films, where everyone universally struggles, but yeah, those need subtitles too.
  18. Okay, hopefully Eagles don't give me a heart attack into the playoffs like they do . . . every year. Last year was a heartbreaker. So, here we go! Kansas City Chiefs to win: $200 1. Kansas City Chiefs TD 2. 5 field goals 3. 10 penalties 4. Falcons will have more turnovers 5. Detroit, LA Chargers, Tennessee 6. 25-36 points total 7. Godwin 8. Gurley, McLaurin
  19. Fucking yes. Almost everything in that teaser was a quote or image from the book! And I'm glad it was a teaser that explained nothing and spoiled little. I mean, this is Villenueve. Almost everyone doing this project adores the books, so I hope that helps. I really hate they didn't shoot the whole book at once, the two films back-to-back. Edit: Dune press conference, with some excellent Villeneuve quotes where he explains the two caveats WB had to meet to get him to do Dune: https://www.slashfilm.com/dune-interview-press-conference/ "They didn't shoot Jaws in a swimming pool, you know?" made me ROFL hard.
  20. It makes sense (my wife has become much the same way to a degree) - just that's what people's concerns are. Even one dude coughing and that shit goes through recycled air vents into your nostrils or mouth while breathing (in theory). People don't even know all the long-term effects of Covid yet, so getting it and surviving doesn't mean much when one side effect is brain degradation in old age (one posited theory). People who survived Covid may very well have random and debilitating ailments throughout the rest of their lives. Doctors simply don't know yet, but given the possibility, even though I'd likely survive, I'm not being the dumb character in the zombie/horror movie. We'll see lol. In the same way if Trump wins re-election I'm likely moving out of the country because I don't want to be the dumb historical character in a period piece who stays in the Weimar Republic while Hitler's Germany takes power. Then I'm one of the Jews (since I'm a minority in the US) who stupidly stuck around to see myself get hurt/abused/whatever later? No way.
  21. Which I like (I believe Ray Fisher for now over WB too), but then why is he doing a Snowman adaptation for Geoff Johns and Jon Berg if they are two of the three main parties who hurt the person you say you stand with? It's just a voice role, but still, strange. What is meeting up like for Momoa, Johns, and Berg after this when they work on Snowman?
