Hard to tell how long that will continue from their messaging.

The reason to keep it are mainstream gamers who predominantly play games like CoD, Madden, NB2K, Fortnite, etc. Many of them wouldn't consider paying for Games Pass, but will pay to play their games online. Might as well hit them with a $120 annual fee if they're not all-in. To those who could be swayed, it makes Games Pass for $180 a year seem like a better value, and pushes them towards it. They clearly want to have as many GP subscribers as possible while still leveraging the online paywall to its fullest. It's how they'll get the largest monthly intake from their console base. That is, unless these consumers reject this move with their wallets.

More of the same reasons, I'd say. It's another reminder that platform-wide multiplayer paywalls are born of corporate greed. I wonder how Epic feels about this price hike, with Fortnite still not technically F2P on Xbox. Or Activision, for that matter.

Why phase it out when they can still charge for it?

That’s a game I surely would have bought by now if Nintendo didn’t charge for online. I would still like to pick it up someday on the cheap along with the DLC. I enjoyed Splatoon 1’s well enough.

Probably should wait for the next gen remaster on that one if he’ll be playing on Series X. No clue if that’s coming to GP anytime soon though.

I jumped into FFIX after Hades because I just really wanted something relaxing and turn based. Yeah, it's probably smart to beat Link's Awakening first.

Thought I'd share a snap of Moguri mod. Not bad for a game released 20 years ago.

Looking forward to see what they do. 3rd person maybe? It'd be strange to see Indy go first person.

It looks kinda like a hybrid between 3D World and Odyssey. Not bad, but how big will it be? This should be an instabuy for anyone without the Wii U game though. 3D World is fantastic.

Started FFIX. Since FF is going back to a medieval setting I thought I'd play it in prep. This is definitely closer to the lighthearted DQ/FF4/FF5 'fantasy' though, which I appreciate too. I'm using the Moguri Mod, playing in 4k on my TV. The AI upscaled art pops really nicely. Enough to feel like I'm stepping back to the 360/PS3 era instead of the PS1. That's huge, if you stop to think about it. I get to experience this game for the first time with it looking like this... really glad I waited all these years. The translation is really bothering me though. Or the writing in general. I can't tell which it is. It doesn't hold up, at least not in the opening hour. The game tries to be playful and silly, but can miss the mark very hard at times ('okay then, you're my slave now'). What was the first fight even about? There's some objectifying quips about a princess getting kidnapped. You chase her, knowing its her, then she says: 'Fine, I'll reveal my true identity to you. I am the princess after all. (no shit) Please kidnap me. You don't know this, but I've been training for this moment to be captured.' Like I said, somethings off. Hopefully with time it gets better. I'll stick with it, since there's still a ton of surface level charm here, and I trust the characters will get better with time (the knight guy seems okay). But it's a really poor opening for a FF beyond the presentation.
