  1. There's an idea of a good game here, but wow the movement feels bad. The run animation is oddly fast, but you move slower than any 3D platformer I can remember. It's just taunting you. I wouldn't even mind some 3D Sonic level jank here if it meant being able to run faster. I bet they chose this run speed because the visuals would make you sick otherwise. The world has an inverse curvature (think Animal Crossing, but backwards) which is nauseating. Played it on PC, but there's no ability to go any higher than 720p. (wut?) It's inspired somewhat by Mario Odyssey with its powerups, but lacks all the fun. Unless they find it with some serious mechanical polish, I wouldn't bother. Go play Hat in Time or Yooka instead.
  2. Since I'm playing it, I hate the way FFIX handles cloud saves on Steam. SquareEnix had to be different. You get one slot for a cloud save you must copy to from the main menu. Delete the game and forget to upload? Sorry, your save is gone for good. In fact, all of them. Kaput. Not too big deal if you know. But wanting a fresh install for Moguri mod made me realize my prior save was toast.
  3. I haven’t played them yet so I can’t speak from experience in hands-on, but this sounds a lot like you’re inventing strawmen. Horizon always came with the caveat of launching close to BotW and lacking its freedoms, and Ghost gets described as a beautiful ‘one of those’ pretty often from what I’ve seen. God of War is probably the Sony game last gen that people talk up the most. Its not everyone’s favorite though. I’m sure there’s gamers out there who are saying the things you’re implying, but is it a majority consensus? Haven’t seen it.
  4. One of the strangest takes I've seen in a while. Weren't you into Days Gone (7/10)? Ironically, Bloober Team used to be one of those mystery devs some Wii fans had irrational hope in. This game seems like it'll be good for anyone who digs the vibe. Plus, it legit does next-gen stuff. Sounds like a success to me.
  5. Save 67% on Ori and the Will of the Wisps on Steam STORE.STEAMPOWERED.COM Play the critically acclaimed masterpiece. Embark on a new journey in a vast, exotic world where you’ll encounter towering enemies and challenging puzzles on your quest to unravel Ori’s destiny. Less than $10 now. I almost picked it up for $15 of wallet credit in the Winter sale, won't miss it now.
  6. Save 100% on Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator on Steam STORE.STEAMPOWERED.COM Here is a sandbox like no other. Create massive battles with absolutely no limits. Want to see 10,000 chickens fight an army of Romans?? Sure, why not. Want to see a company of WW2 U.S soldiers fight 11,000 Medieval soldiers?? There are simply no limits to the carnage you can achieve in UEBS.
  7. The full game of Avengers didn't fare better. Same smeary reconstruction issues and FPS drops. Look on the right. Action sequences kill the clarity. It's nearly Cyperpunk deja vu. Control had greater next-gen ambitions than most of the games you see so far on actual PS5/XSX hardware. Much of their focus was on pushing the RTX cards on PC to their limits. It's little surprise they had difficulty pairing back to base level hardware, even without RT. Point was, it's not just open world games that are struggling like you said. XBO/PS4 hardware is 7+ years old now. It's inevitable games will perform worse there going forward. Cyperpunk wasn't a total anomaly, given that prior gen games pushing the Pro/X could fall into the same trap. But it does reflect an extreme of how bad it could get with next gen consoles in the mix. And yes, open world games will continue to have issues on old hardware. It's not something just to brush off, since many games do go there. I think we'll see prior gen versions of games be mostly dropped after 2 years, because like always, it's going to be too much of a drag to keep them around. No one should take good performance on XBO/PS4 as a given in the meanwhile.
  8. Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition WWW.EPICGAMES.COM Download and Buy Today - Epic Games Store For the King is next week.
  9. I wouldn't say it introduced anything, other than than doing cutscene/gameplay transitions more seamlessly. There's not many modern games that are as linear as it, at least not in the AAA space.
  10. That's the Uncharted games in a nutshell for me. Difficulty spikes can feel almost like padding. But I can leap off ledges like I'm playing Sands of Time, which I kind of appreciate.
  11. Having to target 7+ different SKUs is very much a development problem. TLoU2 and FF7R limited themselves to 2 at launch. There's games that do get it right across the board. But for anyone sticking with base last-gen hardware, I wouldn't presume games like RE8 will run fine.
  12. It's been a little dubious, IMO. Unlike GWG, you have to resub to play these games if your subscription lapses. And you may do better just bargain hunting what you actually want to play. Most of the AAA games on it last year were already going for <$10 in 2019. (I owned 90% of them already, for that reason) If people find value in it still, that's fine. It’s definitely much better than buying a single new game at full price. And the PS+ Collection is great for anyone who wasn't already in the PS ecosystem. I do lot better just checking EGS giveaways and buying the odd Humble Monthly that interests me. I've got Amazon Prime as well, and the indies given there aren't so far from what you'd see on GWG/PS+ anyways. (Void Bastards, Blazing Chrome, Kunai, etc)
  13. The multiplayer paywall adds nothing and shouldn’t exist as a play on console tax. That’s where the value prospect is truly abysmal, and hypocritical, even more today with so many games going cross-play. PS+/GWG monthlies meanwhile were both fairly lackluster most of the last gen. Likely from complacency brought on by Sony adopting the paywall, as opposed to needing to justify their service on accord of the games (like on PS3). Also a desire to upsell their base on other subscriptions. The PS Plus Collection seems to be intended as a small scale reaction to Games Pass. That’s a positive development. Though it sucks to see it locked to PS5. As for the recent PS+/GWG monthlies improving, it could be a trend or fluke. Or maybe indicative of a looming price hike... or was an attempt to pad one especially egregious one over...
  14. What is ‘next gen’ about Control Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S? – 505 Games Support SUPPORT.505GAMES.COM Performance Mode – Targets 60fps performance with 1440p render resolution and 4K output Graphics Mode – Targets 30fps performance with ray tracing (transparency and reflections)... Performance Mode – Targets 60fps performance with 1440p render resolution and 4K output Graphics Mode– Targets 30fps performance with ray tracing (transparency and reflections) at 1220p render resolution and 4K output NOTE: Only the Performance mode is available on Xbox Series S. It is targeting 60fps with no ray tracing, at 900p render resolution, and 1080p output. This is a limitation of the hardware, not the game. PS5 DualSense Support – Support for vibrations and triggers. PS5 Activities and Help – Cards and videos that help guide you through the game, and keep track of your progress. As good of an argument as any that a better upscaling solution is needed. Control also has RT shadows and diffuse lighting on PC. Will want to see DF’s breakdown for sure, to see what is left out or dialed back.
  15. The upgraded one. Like Paperclyp said, you can play it on PS4 too. Last gen version with all DLC there.
  16. I'm really looking forward to it! Almost pulled the trigger for it used on Gamestop over the holidays.
  17. I've been saving a gifted PS Plus store card for 2 years now, waiting for a month like this. Control UE with a subscription almost makes up for 505's screwball upgrade plan.
