I started the process of going for my dual citizenship about two weeks before Covid really 'officially hit' and it's been one blow after another to an already up to 12-14 months wait time without anything that has happened this year. It's to the point my lawyer asked me to stop emailing her about my case until further notice.

I have a number of colleges who are affected. These are talented people who we're pushing out because of bullshit. It's going to have serious ramifications down the road and it seems like it will be hard to gain immigrants trust back.

 

Though it is remarkable we had any interest at all given how bad our baseline was before all this.

Though it is largely self-inflicted, there is some assistance (I believe) from outside forces, such as Russia pushing wild conspiracy theories on social media, etc. More of a helping hand than the cause, of course.

If people are actually willing to be significantly influenced by such external nonsense because they are unwilling to think critically or perform substantial research using reputable sources, then the damage is better characterized as ENTIRELY self-inflicted.

That's fair. America has raised multiple generations willing to commit national suicide, and the Russians simply helped inform them about guns.

It's remarkably stupid as they are actively stoping what would be high income earners that would pay back a lot in taxes. Canada is set up for a serious windfall over all of this. I mean technically we already are seeing the byproduct of the last few years and this is just going to accelerate it further.
