Seems so, the scuttle is there are 2 sides. 1 wants to see it fail because its "WOKE" so any good reviews are paid reviews and of course the other side sees bad reviews as siding with others and or doing it for clicks. Ghost_MH Posted June 17, 2020 Share Posted June 17, 2020 Watching that video made me realize I'm REALLY disconnected from the game reviewing scene. I don't remember the last time I actually read a review and the only time I check OpenCritic is for those random games I'm really on the fence about and need a sanity check to know if it's hot garbage. I lurk there here and there for the quickest news on games I'm particularly interested in and the few review threads I've poked my head in make the old NeoGAF board look like a bastion of logic, sanity and fun. Xbob42 Posted June 17, 2020 Share Posted June 17, 2020 While I occasionally find the odd review a little confusing (GTA IV being Oscar worthy, Devil May Cry V scoring above a 7 for any reason, etc) I don't think I've ever felt any real emotion about them. I mean I think we're all happy when a game we're looking forward to gets stellar reviews since it (usually) means it wasn't a big pile of trash, but that's in a "oh good it doesn't suck" meta context... specific reviews being positive or negative? crispy4000 Posted June 17, 2020 Share Posted June 17, 2020 I think I only get frustrated when reviewers miss extremely obvious shit they hold against a game. Like it’s the game’s fault when it‘s really just their bad. Or worse, they take something in the game out of context, then fixate on it as a writing prompt. Sometimes, I‘ll wonder if the review was more about the game, or the tangents they’ve tried to editorialize within it. There’s even times I’d agree with such extended takes (ie: loot boxes are scummy, avoiding current politics when the whole setting is about current politics, etc) and I still find the review unprofessional. I’ve seen these things happen rarely, but it still bugs me when they do. Probably because I don’t think it’s fair to the creators, or the games, and I empathize with that.
