Elden Ring - Information Thread, update (05/21): Shadow of the Erdtree "Story Trailer"

Recommended Posts

I finally beat Forlorn hound evergaol and got his sword. I'm level 49 so it wasn't too bad of a fight. The thing that sucks is that the fang sword isn't as powerful as my broadsword. So I'm not using it.

My main issue now is trying to upgrade my sword and get better (lighter) armor so I'm not heavy load. My rolling is so slow because I'm heavy. Where do you upgrade shit and where do you get better armor?

Every vendor I run into has nothing. I also beat another boss this morning too. I think I'm doing pretty well overall.

What are your stats? At level 49 you should have enough endurance to at least med load most armor sets.

I need to put more runes in endurance for sure. I forget what it's at but I'll focus on that each time I level.

I went to upgrade it and it said I don't have what I need. How in the hell do I find what I need to upgrade it?

I just picked up somber smithing stones everywhere I could. I have no idea where I found them. I think Liurna has a bunch apparently.

Yeah the Bloodhound Sword is really powerful, has a good moveset, AND causes bleed buildup. It's far better than your broadsword even un-upgraded because blood loss is so powerful.

Wish I could remember specifically where I found some somber smithing stones, but I think they're just kind of around. Right now I still need a [6] one so that I can get my sword to +6.

You don't have to wear a full set of armor. The damage reduction is obviously great and all but if you're fat-rolling and can't get out of the way of a combo string, that's way worse than having a few less HP points taken because you're wearing a helmet.

Also invest in Endurance, or whatever it was that governs equip load. You'll thank yourself in the long run. I usually take off the helmet and gloves.

I have all kinds of Somber stones but NOT the +3 I fucking need. I'm finding every other variety but I'm sure I'll run into it soon enough just exploring.

This is the kind of thing I've mentioned the game heavily reminds me of:

It's a scene from the movie Black Sabbath (1963) and this type of lighting and scenery is very heavily featured in one of this anthology's segments called The Wurdulak. That's the kind of 'gothic horror' feel I keep talking about.

So if I keep upgrading endurance my heavy load issue will go away? I tried to put on the lightest armor I could find.

Upgrading Endurance increases your Stamina and Equipment Load total. Take a look at the right side of the screen where your Equipment Load is shown and mess with your equipment, you'll see it'll actually say something like HEAVY LOAD/MEDIUM LOAD. Medium Load is a normal roll. But yes, the roll is governed by what percentage of your total Equipment Load you're wearing. So raising the total with Endurance will raise that percentage.

That's why I wish there was some light level scaling. Nothing crazy, but I never want to enter a new area and 1-shot or 2-shot everything. An area I've been to before? Absolutely. But never a new one.

If the Bleed Damage stuff is as broken as everyone says, maybe switch to a weapon that isn't so OP?  I realize it's self handicapping, but if I killed some of these bosses in 5-6 hits like you've said, I think a lot of the fun of the game might be lost.

I switched to the Bloodhound Sword briefly to try it out and it was outperforming my +5 weapons quite a bit, and I'm not spec'd into Dex much at all, which I think is its primary attribute.

I've still primarily been rocking my starting Battle Axe +5, and Battle Hammer +5.  Really enjoying the overall challenge still.  I am facing the dilemma of getting so many cool new weapons I want to mess with, and wanting to spec into everything so I can use everything.

So what’s everyone’s favorite/most useful Ashes so far? I’ve been using Holy Strike(?) it throws out a holy arc projectile then imbues your weapon with holy. I haven’t run into any enemies that are resistant to holy yet so it’s wrecking everything.

By far the jellyfish. He tanks everything for me.

Also, what are dragon hearts for? I have 6 of them.

Jellyfish is a Summon, not and Ash of War.

You should have found Dragon Alters around the map.  They are basically a currency I think.

I must not be aggressive enough against bosses because even with Bloodhound Sword, which I didn't realize was being used by everyone in here as well when I started using it, I did respectable damage to Godrik but nothing out of the ordinary. I never managed to steamroll him or anything at all.

I actually just found the Whip and I think I'm going to level the shit out of that and go for it. It, for once, sounds and looks really nasty. I REALLY want to go full Castlevania.

I actually really like that group of noblemen or whatever they're called. I just like the chaos they cause especially in groups.  Duh, Ashes...

Holy Strike (or whatever yeah) is great and you can perma-kill skeletons with it so I used it to beat the dungeon filled with skeletons.

I'm also using the Ash of War on my shield that basically gives you a large parry window. It creates a small storm and deflects arrows and everything else and parries but the window is much bigger.

Agreed, I was pretty Powerful when I went against Godric, and while Margit was harder, I certainly didn't kill either in 5 or 6 hits, not even close.

It's probably my play style. I assume you can crush these bosses if you figure out how to be super aggressive and go for visceral attacks etc.? My first time around so far, I'm just now kind of starting to become more aggressive and less Souls-y in my playstyle. Jumping over attacks, jump attacks, lots of guard counters and so on.

Did you know you can permakill Skeletons even without holy? If you hit them when they’re on the ground and starting to reform they’ll stay dead.

Im actually loving the “no skill” on my shield so I finally don’t have to switch to two handed or dual wielding to activate my holy strike on my sword
