Jason
The second bit is really bad news. An absolute fuckton of online guides are going to get broken when they pull all the unregistered content. Major unpopular changes are coming to free image host Imgur | Windows Central WWW.WINDOWSCENTRAL.COM It is happening again.

Bacon
While I don't have any explicit images, I do have what Japan would call R-15 images. NSFW but no nudity. I have no public images. I wonder if any of that will be taken down.
marioandsonic
This pretty much killed Tumblr, and OnlyFans stopped when they realized it would have killed them. But surely this will work out well for imgur!

Meanwhile reddit is majorly nerfing the API access for third party apps (the official mobile app is garbage)...including wholesale cutting off access to NSFE material from third party apps. Time for Digg v6?
TwinIon
That's really annoying. The best part about imgur to me was that you didn't need an account. In the past when I've posted images here and elsewhere I've just dropped them into imgur and put in the link. I've never had an account so I imagine all those will be purged. I come across imgur images often, but I have no idea if most people create accounts. There are about to be a lot of dead links out there. Getting rid of NSFW material seems like an inevitable thing for these companies, so that doesn't really surprise or annoy me that much. b_m_b_m_b_m
I wonder how much of it is to avoid the regulatory and data risk due to complying with state level ID verification laws regarding porn

Time for Digg v6? This could probably be it's own thread, but yeah, that really sucks. I use Reddit quite a lot, but almost entirely from 3rd party apps. The lack of ads is nice, but even if those apps had ads I'd still use them. The UI is just so much better. I use Relay on my android phone and Apollo on my iPad. I was reading on the Apollo subreddit that the creator thinks they should be able to move to a subscription model, but who knows how that will work out. Depending on the price of the API it's easy to imagine the monthly fee being too much for all but the most hardcore users and effectively killing off the entire 3rd party ecosystem. It doubly sucks as someone that uses both android and iOS, because if I want to keep my experience the same I'd need to pay two subscriptions, which is pretty hard to justify. Guest
I have dropped 95% of my Twitter usage due to the end of 3rd party app access. The native clients for most social media companies are not good.
SaysWho?
Fortunately, most of my uploads are on an account, but I’m pretty sure I’ve had plenty which weren’t.
marioandsonic
It's so bitterly ironic that online content doesn't age and is practically perfect for preserving things, yet is also where content is at its most vulnerable and least permanent. You like that one YouTube video? Too bad, it got taken down due to copyright issues! You like that one artist's work? Too bad, they just deleted everything without warning! You like seeing porn on this one website? Too bad, we're scrubbing all NSFW content because fuck you! You like those Flash online games? Too bad, we're discontinuing Flash support forever! You want to download that one game? Too bad, we pulled the plug on the servers, so you can't buy it anymore! This shit fucking sucks, man.

Iirc digital media actually isn’t a good long term store of data, it physically degrades fairly quickly. But it can be copied extremely easily and cheaply. but should our world turn to ashes, those picking up the ruins will find and possibly be able to read an ancient Babylonian 2-star review of some grain supplier before they ever see the brilliant discourse here on day one patch
