Telling Biden “lol your son is a crackhead loser” after Trump spent four years telling white suburban mothers it wasn’t their fault their kids got hooked on drugs from the city was a TERRIBLE look that changed a lot of people’s minds about him. Sure, botching the pandemic response, those idiotic press conferences telling people to drink bleach, and later catching covid himself hurt him, but that first debate was seen by more people than anything. I personally don't think the 2020 debates moved the needle, and quite frankly if this decision by the RNC ends televised debates for good, all the merrier.
