CitizenVectron
Hollywood studio MGM puts itself up for sale at $5bn | Business | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Studio behind James Bond franchise looks to cash in on rocketing prices for content amid TV streaming boom Quote MGM, the Hollywood studio behind the James Bond and Rocky franchises, is up for sale with a price-tag of more than $5bn (£3.75bn). The studio has explored selling several times over the last few years, most recently in January when preliminary talks were held with Netflix and Apple among others, but price proved to be a stumbling block. However, the streaming wars continue to fuel huge inflation in the prices willing to be paid for must-have content, and proven global franchises are becoming increasingly scarce and as a result rocketing in value. Here are their main franchises and licensing: James Bond Franchise The Handmaid's Tale Franchise Rocky Franchise Pink Panther Franchise Vikings Franchise Legally Blonde Franchise Stargate Franchise RoboCop Franchise Metro 2033 Hobbit (co-owned) Addam's Family Tomb Raider So who do we think is going to scoop them up? I'm betting Apple or Netflix will try.
GeneticBlueprint
Jeff Bezos. I don't think those franchises are worth $5 billion when looking at sales of other studios or franchises.

Keyser_Soze
Time for @Commissar SFLUFAN to put a bid in. The d1p biopic will finally come to fruition! I heard @skillzdadirecta is on slate to direct!

CitizenVectron
This amount miiiiight have made sense in 2019, pre-pandemic (though even then, it's a stretch). But now, with the future of blockbuster movies in the air? Who would really want Bond (because that's what this is really about) if there is no guarantee of return? There are some cool things you could do with the character (mostly, just return it to the 1960s as a period-piece spy thriller), but it's not worth the risk. Jason
Supposedly Brad Wright had something in the works for a new Stargate show in the existing TV continuity. It would suck if this derails that in favor of a reboot, or just going back to sitting on the franchise.
Commissar SFLUFAN
Just now, Jason said: Do you think that's over or under valued? Over-valued to a ludicrous degree.
skillzdadirecta
I think you guys vastly underestimate how much revenue some of these I.P.'s generate. Disney got both Marvel and Lucasfilm for 4 Billion apiece which seems like a bargan now. The Bond film Franchise by itself has generated over a billion from box office receipts ALONE. That's not counting merchandising, books, toys, comics, video games and other ancilliary product. And that's just ONE of the franchises they are selling.
