  1. I know about WW1 and the Barbary Wars, not the Tanker War though, that one slipped by me. I was thinking a little more with how things are with this current conflict. The Russians don't seem to care about attacking merchant ships no matter what country they belong to.
  2. I know that, but it was still pretty quick. Even if he decided to get this going when they started moving hardware into the region, did he just get lucky with the timing to be able to head that way on the same day the shit hit the fan?
  3. This shit started fucking yesterday. Was he sitting at home last night reading the news, just hired a crew and a plane and left?
  4. Is there something worse than widespread human rights abuses? I feel like that's broad enough to encompass the worst.
  5. She's just coping with the fact that she raised a really stupid kid who thought it was literally about birds.
  6. That's a pretty stupid way of teaching that, you can do that with pictures, or just tell the kids. Everyone knows what a Nazi salute is, we don't need people modeling it in class when there is plenty of film the Nazis themselves made of that shit.
  7. I don't know, having the confidence to write, film, and release that along with ripping off crypto bros to the tune of billions... I kinda wish she was more into chunky Americans than tiny Russians and not bound for prison.
  8. Promised NFT game "Blockverse" rug pulls 500 ETH ($1.2 million) WEB3ISGOINGGREAT.COM Blockverse, a project that promised to build a play-to-earn game on top of Minecraft, rug pulled two days after launch. The initial NFT collection sold out in only eight minutes, even though the project creators hadn't even begun to develop the game they were promising. The creators rugpulled two days later, taking the 500 ETH ($1.2 million) and deleting the project website and Discord server.
  9. There are some really good VR games. Pistol Whip, Bridge Crew, Beat Saber, I kind of liked Moss in VR. But I've never had the drive to be in it for more than little pick up and play games. It's silly to assume that companies are going to buy millions of these things to hand out to employees so they can have a meeting where shitty avatars have a meeting at a table on a mountain house or whatever instead of a window in Zoom or Teams.
  10. Pity I've never seen a single company give a shit in any meaningful way. The responses are always the same. Something forces them to take notice of employee attrition. The CEO announces that they are aware and are forming focus groups, listening sessions, or sending surveys. They find out that everyone feels overworked and undervalued and that the solution is to hire more people and lower the standard of work to something more reasonable. Both of those things cost money, so their actual solution is to have HR send out weekly mindfulness emails that tell you to take 60 seconds every few hours to think about yourself and to go outside more after work. Sometimes they'll also tell the middle and lower managers to come up with fun activities for their regularly scheduled meetings. I'd almost respect these companies more if the CEO was just like "we know you aren't happy, but you can find another job that may suck less and we'll attract and burn out someone else when you go"
  11. Time to dissolve the town and make it county/township land. There was a garbage speed trap of a town near me that is no longer a town now.
  12. This was the most predictable thing possible to have happened. These tests are like $24 for a two pack, and submitting a receipt to get that back is not worth the time or effort. Saying insurance would cover the rapid home tests was mostly symbolic.
  13. I was working for a local company when I got sent home in March 2020. Now I work for a company based in South Portland, Maine because they offered me a 15k raise and it's likely I'll never see that office.
  14. I feel like n95s are finally being made to meet demand, I've been seeing them at Home Depot lately. But yeah, testing has been a shitshow for this entire pandemic, it hasn't been able to deal with any of the surges we've had.
  15. I've been COVID test Santa for my friends lately. I've gotten lucky and managed to scoop up a few and every time someone gets the sniffles I drop one off at their door.
  16. Reading shit from game company executives is depressing. Movie executives still get that they make something that's an intersection of art, entertainment, and revenue generation. But these soulless husks that run game companies seem to wish they didn't have to bother with anything other than transferring money. He wants to turn people who "play to contribute" into some goofy form of gig worker from the looks of it and seems to regard people who "play to have fun" (ie most of the people who fucking buy games) as secondary.
  17. I feel like if you're threatening people with harm then fuck it, you deserve to be called out publicly.
  18. This fucking guy is going to win, Ohio is a red state and his main primary opponent is soft penis Aldi store brand grifter JD Vance.
  19. I had a coworker who's all in on crypto, thinks that it's going to let him retire in his 40s. He has a bunch of oddball coins he's convinced in a decade will be worth 10x or more what they are now. He's educated and reasonably successful professionally, but got hooked into the crypto shit.
  20. So Tom Clancy has been dead for 8 years, I wonder if EA owns his name like they own Clancy and will just keep it going
  21. Does the quack shit just go in cycles, we had the colloidal silver stuff back at the start nearly 2 years ago coming from Alex Jones and Jim Bakker. There's also the Dallas Q people chugging that miracle solution industrial bleach shit we had going around 2 years ago. Maybe we'll get back to fish medicine and horse paste.
