    I think I just think what I wrote because I never played Greatswords or anything 'heavier' in these games. I tend to stick with stuff like Falchions and so on, so this feels kind of hard for me in terms of finding openings. That being said, the jump attack on this thing is one of my favorite aspects, especially with the jump attack buff talisman, damn. It just feels punishing.

    Eh I think it's actually a bit touchy to use during bosses sometimes. You REALLY have to watch your attack window because it's somewhat slow compared to a regular sword or similar. I started with Estoc and this one's windup really fucked me up during bosses at first, their combos tend to be really quick. Still a fantastic weapon if you can be a bit selective about when to attack.

    From just designed modern classic after modern classic for like a decade plus, they know better when to give players a crafting kit than any of us.

    I don't like the hint messages and bloodstains and shit everywhere on my first playthroughs, that's the only reason. I end up getting distracted and reading them constantly etc.

    I've been playing offline completely. Always do on my first playthroughs. I am starting to itch for assisting people on bosses though...that's the only multiplayer thing I engage with.

    I don't think that but I also don't think it's From being bad at anything which is really what I don't agree with. I think it's From sign-posting the tutorial area perfectly well without forcing repeat players to do a tutorial over and over like in the other games. They made that room dark as hell on purpose so your eyes would immediately dart to ghost dude and that message.

    That was actually my first instinct as well. Especially considering that fall would have murdered you brutally with fall damage in every previous game! Souls Chads confirmed

    I don't wanna be that Souls Guy but there's a glowing message in the dark and a ghost dude sitting there telling you to go there. I legit don't know how anyone missed that, they're the only shining beacons in a dark-ass room.

    I'm playing the PS4 version on PS5. It runs flawlessly at 60fps and, to me, doesn't look different and I tried the PS5 version for an hour first.

    Yeah, I have about six (I think?) different items to mix in so far, some really good shit. I think right now I have 50% of health and added stamina regen.

    That's where the new structure really comes in for new players I think. There is no wrong way to play. If bosses are a bitch, you go do one of the other million things and make yourself stronger by beating other enemies. Either way, you made it happen and worked at leveling, it's a good way to dictate your own difficulty beyond From's boss design difficulty.

    Same, I use markers like crazy. Treasure chests for dungeon entrances and possible locations like that, the diamond for vendors, the branch thingie for NPCs, skulls for bosses and so on.

    Also try to find church ruins in the world. I've found a few called Church Of Marika (sp?), these usually have a one of those items required to upgrade your flask in front of a huge statue of her. Edit: The map is actually very useful if you learn to read it a bit. Zoom in close if you picked up your map fragment and just study the map for a bit. You can easily spot ruins by the way they're drawn, elevations and so on. Ruins always have SOMETHING good, whether it'll turn out to be a Church Of Marika or a little dungeon space with an item chest or a vendor.

    It's fucking brutal already. I spent almost the entire weekend just playing it and my head is apparently still in full Elden mode. I can't focus on shit. Worse, I'm supposed to go to...ew..."date night" tonight which will lead to ...sex. Bitch I could be playing Elden Ring. I need to do a George Costanza and somehow sneak a mini-tv into bed with headphones. What the fuck are you doing??? Pleasuring you....?

    Uchigatana has always been a great sword in Souls games, I almost went for that myself but I've played it in every game almost so I said not this time chief!

    This is actually kind of a Dex weapon. Its base Dex scaling is a C. I'm also running this right now and it's a really great weapon. I have it upgraded to +2 I think and it hits like a truck. Absolutely came in handy in Stormveil. You need Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade it since it's a special weapon. Also inflicts a ton of Bleed. You can get it by defeating one of the Gaol bosses. The one that's at the south end of the "main" Limgrave area. I forgot what the thing was called but it looks like the Dancer of the Boreal Valley sort of from Dark Souls 3. Edit: It's Forlorn Hound Gaol. Lore time: this boss is actually the dude the huge wolf guy in Mistwood is looking for if I remember the name correctly. Here's the location

    As long as you're focusing on Str weapons, sure. Focus on the stats that compliment your weapon style of choice yup.

    What weapon do you have? Might be time to level it up more? I didn't do a ton of damage with the Estoc but about maybe...90 on each hit? Also you can equip your staff or whatever to your right hand prior and switch between magic and melee.

    I explored the shit out of the castle and I'm willing to bet that big elevator is some later shortcut maybe? I couldn't find it either but might go back tonight to investigate some more.

    Yea I mean as with everything else the game explains it in some obtuse jargon when in reality it's as simple as "when game gives you HUD icon, can use". You can also level them up.
