General Gaming Oculus Quest 2: ~4k, 6GB RAM, 90hz, starts at $299

Perfectly. I'd honestly avoid Link in general. It might be slightly better performance, but it's really a nightmare imo. USB-C cables simply aren't designed to be plugged into something that's constantly moving and twisting and the tips wear out over time. Which is a big deal given how fucking expensive the cables are. -

I'm posting this through the Quest 2! Pretty amazing so far. The text looks totally clear. -
From the side, sure. It's the first person experiences that tend to be janky.

I'd wait until you get very used to intense VR before jumping into VorpX stuff though. Some of it can make you incredibly sick

Another tip: I strongly recommend the Firefox app on Quest for streaming (non porn) media. It's much better for it imo. It's easier to move around and you can change the size of the screen to whatever you want.

Some more tips: There's an app on Sidequest that you can load which will link to your phone and show you your notifications while in VR. I can't remember the name off hand but you can find it in the search. I know none of the upstanding individuals on this site will care about this, but, just in case, most of the main porn streaming sites like Pornhub have a VR category that will stream directly into the native Browser app on the Quest. You just load the video, hit play, and it'll load in VR. Pretty .. handy. One possibility that's often ignored is the ability to play standard games in Theater Mode. If you get Virtual Desktop, you can play all your normal games in a simulated theater experience with a gamepad. It's like playing video games in a movie theater. You can do this in a variety of simulated environments and it's pretty awesome imo. The fact that you're doing it through the Quest instead of a PC-based headset means that the headset and VR rendering isn't taking up many of your PC resources which leaves more for running the game. It's a huge advantage of the Quest. Another great feature here is SBS 3D functionality in games. The headset and Virtual Desktop can handle rendering games in 3d so long as it's SBS. It's not a super common setting but some games (Shadow of the Tomb Raider for one) support this. 3d movies are also awesome in theater mode. Check out Bigscreen. It has a shared movie theater experience where you can watch a movie in a simulated movie theater with other people. Kind of neat, though maybe a bit gimmicky. That's it for now but I'm sure I'll think of more.

Also, if you have both 2.4 and 5ghz connections on your router, separate them so they each have a different name. In most use cases, you only want the Quest connecting to the 5ghz.

I’ll second the virtual desktop tip. The wired Link experience is dog shit imo. Not only does it suck having the wire, but these wires aren’t really built for being connected to a device that is constantly moving and the tips will wear out quickly leading to the cable not maintaining a stable connection, which is frustrating as all hell in my experience. Also, I recommend buying a roll or two of Velcro on Amazon or wherever for cable management. I use mine for my headphones and the power cable when I’m using the headset while sitting or lying down in bed. Speaking of lying in bed, you can use the Quest in a pitch black room if you disable tracking. I’ve spent countless hours watching shows and movies in VR on my Quest 1 and I think it’s an amazing experience. Like having a fucking full size movie theater in reach at any moment. The Quest 2 with the higher resolution will probably make this even more incredible. And if you have a significant other, you can watch movies or shows in bed without bugging them.

I'd go with Best Buy instead. They're still listing it as release day at most stores (some actually say sold out now). -

I mostly use my Quest for media consumption. I imagine the Quest 2 will be like a dream. -

It'd be cool if we could get a new Midnight Club imo. -
No problem. I personally found Amazon pretty annoying because the majority of updates were from independent sellers with increased prices, but I acknowledged that the suggestion already existed in the chat and people are free to choose it over my suggestion if they prefer it. Once I started trying Newegg, it became my main strategy, because all I had to do was keep refreshing the same page on my phone every so often as I did other things. I could do it while playing games on my PC or out shopping or whatever. All I had to do was keep the app open and pull down on the screen every so often. And when the card showed up, it's literally 3 super fast button presses. I think this is the simplest solution by a mile for people who have Apple. But, again, all the other suggestions and reasons for those suggestions already existed in the chat for people to choose. I just shared my favorite.

I can't see where I did this. Can you quote me directly? None of my claims in this thread imply anything like this quote. Please try reading and responding to what I actually write. It has happened on the hour multiple times. I was in 3 different discords full of people trying to get this card and many/most people in those discords jumped on newegg every hour because of this widely-noticed observation. You'll notice I also recommended they do it all throughout the day and emphasized "but mostly on the hour every hour" to further increase their chances. I'm not giving people false hope. I'm acknowledging that most people don't have a lot of time to try multiple different strategies and obsess about this card as I did and I'm giving them a low stress, time-efficient alternative that will still have a great chance of working out for them imo.
