  1. The position actually is that since 99%+ of abortions at that stage are for emergency medical reasons, putting a barely passed the bar 1st year lawyer who's on call at 2am into the decision making process (who's sole responsibility is to protect the hospital, not the patient) is a really bad idea. "Most of the world" gives sole override authority to the doctor and that decision isn't subject to review.
  2. Ugh, one of the worst parts of moving is finally here, finding a vaccine clinic that won't freak out if I request the shot in my thigh.
  3. This is the Senate's "solution" to pay for a giant tax cut that'll throw the state into a deficit. Somehow the NC House is being the slightly more responsible chamber.
  4. NC Senate GOP super majority holding Medicaid Expansion and the State Budget hostage unless they get 4 casinos out of the GOP super majority NC House. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article279442089.html
  5. Adventures in Public Speaking – Disability Visibility Project DISABILITYVISIBILITYPROJECT.COM Today, September 14, 2023, I gave a virtual talk at Boston University’s School of Public Health about my anthology Disability Visibility since the school selected my book as their 2023 Schoo… Understandably angry disabled activist censored in talk to BU Public Health because she was too mean.
  6. That was great. They totally missed an opportunity to explain how the Anakin lightsaber is somehow in Ep7. Ahsoka disarms Anakin, the lightsaber falls onto the planet from World Between Worlds and is picked up by scavengers, meaning the one Rey was given was never Luke's but came directly from Anakin.
  7. That's the Black Sea Fleet's only warm water port, right? Imagine Ukraine takes Crimea during the winter, forces the Fleet to withdraw, to... where...?
  8. ERROR: The request could not be satisfied WWW.NJSPOTLIGHTNEWS.ORG Staff hadn't been paid in 3 weeks, facility ran out of food so the staff bought groceries themselves. State Regulators did nothing.
  9. What's crazy is there is literally nothing there, the land is shit and is a REALLY bad investment for developers between the hurricanes and that it is about a 25 minute drive to any store down one road (which the hurricane 2 weeks ago partly washed out).

  11. Also attempts to use those personally defined lines to negotiate a compromise with the pro life movement is pointless because they'll always chase the maximalist position. Texas has a near total ban, good enough? Nope. Texas highways targeted by antiabortion activists seeking to block interstate travel - The Washington Post WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COM A new ordinance, passed in several jurisdictions and under consideration elsewhere, aims to stop people from using local roads to drive someone out of state for an abortion
  12. I would contend that society actually doesn't care about human life at any stage and that abortion is an easy way to fake caring. You can say pro lifers care about other issues like healthcare, but they put zero energy into it. Instead they focus on the most controversial stage of "life" where there will never be broad agreement. Imagine if the Christian Right put that same energy into healthcare reform, or the child welfare system, or disability services, etc and etc, an area where they could get broad agreement and make progress to save lives.
  13. You also wouldn't be here if your parents used birth control that night, how many potential siblings did your parents kill by using birth control before and after you? Same argument towards kids who resulted from rape. "I'm so glad my mom didn't have an abortion after being raped." Are you also glad no one intervened and stopped the rape? In my state we've got kids living in ERs and DSS offices. Before anyone brings up disability and abortion, I completely support it. So many families, regardless of resources, are completely incapable of raising a disabled child. I knew a guy with my exact condition with parents of means. The parents made him drop out of high school and treated him like a dog that would be dead soon, and he internalized that to the point where the only thing he wanted was to not die a virgin. Pretty sure he did though, and his parents get praised by their friends every year on Facebook on his death anniversary for being so wonderful. They weren't.
  14. Regardless of the philosophical beliefs, taking that belief, putting it into law, then into regulations, then interpreted by a hospital lawyer is where you're going to lose people.
  15. First I'm hearing of it. We did survive a big disability case recently on whether individuals can sue to enforce Medicaid civil right violations. I'm curious how this, assuming it goes bad, would impact state Protection and Advocacy agencies (every state is mandated by the feds to have one, most are federally funded non profits) who have the legal authority to do inspections of institutional care settings and subminimum wage disability sweatshops.
  16. Didn't Disney massively shrink the original canon galaxy? I recall something about 1,000 sectors each with 50 systems in the original.
  17. This is officially a murder investigation now. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/08/31/elderly-womans-death-blamed-attack-nc-that-cut-power-45000 Elderly woman’s death blamed on attack in N.C. that cut power to 45,000 - The Washington Post WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COM North Carolina’s medical examiner ruled an 87-year-old’s death a homicide after her oxygen machine lost power following attacks on power stations in her area.
