  1. Yeah it's 95 in New Orleans today. It's one of those "walk outside and immediatley start sweating" kind of days. Yesterday was like that, too. At least everyone here has air conditioning. The worst part of when it hit like 120 in Portland a while back was all the people from Arizona being like "quit whining it's not that bad." Everyone in Phoenix has air conditioning. Only 25-50% of buildings in Portland have AC. So when it gets that hot, there's nowhere to hide.
  2. It's kind of funny to see crypto bros on twitter blame the government for the crypto crash. Oh, I'm sorry, I thought the whole fucking goddamn point of decentralized currency was that it's supposed to be immune from bank and governments. Or maybe, and this is just a thought, but hear me out... speculative markets are the first things to crash when we're possibly heading towards a recession. And crypto is just a fucking game. And people can't pay their rent with shitcoins.
  3. That's assuming you're not retired to your 2000 acre cult compound in Montana by then
  4. I am surprised they picked KC over Chicago.
  5. That reminds me, at a bar I used to work at, there was some random guy that came in that was like "I'm so-and-so, I was sent from [sister bar] to fill in tonight," and the MOD just let him in because she was so used to shit like that getting sprung on her with no notice. The dude ended up stealing all of the tips from the servers and leaving. No one thought anything of it until he was long gone.
  6. In all my time working at bars/clubs, I've often thought about that. The owner/manager rarely tells the rank-and-file when people are supposed to be there to fix things, so we just roll with it. Walk up to the bar with a few things that look like they could be used to fix something, and they'll practically let you in anywhere
  7. "Was" I'd be down to go to a Mexico match. Or maybe go to a match in Seattle. I'm sure air fare to Seattle will be ridiculous, but you can take a train from Portland to Seattle for barely anything and it's not much slower than driving. And the train station in Seattle is literally right by the stadium.
  8. I would ABSOLUTELY be down for a high fantasy buddy cop series. There's a part of me that hoped that's what the Witcher would have been after the first ep of season 2 (not that I'm disappointed in where it went, season 2 of the Witcher was great) Just like Jon Snow, who's had enough of this shit and trying retire while people like Tormund and Arya keep dragging him into one-off adventures. Of course I have zero confidence that that's what the show will be, but that's what it SHOULD be, goddammit.
  9. I fucking LOVE this show so far. It kicks the dick off of Moon Knight (which is unfortunate, I wanted that show to be good, but it should have just been a movie). Beyond the story telling, which has been great, and the editing, which has been great, and the music, which has been great... Having a high budget American property that normalizes Muslims in the context of American society is wonderful. They lean a little hard into it sometimes, but I can't imagine the impact this show has on children from immigrant parents who have always kind of felt the need to hide their identity. That's something I never understood about Black Panther until Chadwick died. Like, the cultural impact that movie had on people who aren't me.
  10. When i get to Final Fantasy, I do plan on playing the remaster. Same with Ys 1. The first 3 Dragon Quest games only have remasters for the mobile versions, though, which I'm pretty sure is the same version that's on the Switch. I think I'll play the NES version. Unless there's a good translation of the Super Nintendo version, which is supposed to be pretty good.
  11. A few weeks ago, or a month ago or whatever it was, I played through the original Legend of Zelda for the first time. That game came out before I was born, so it was a bit before my time. I pretty much missed the NES/Master System era entirely. A friend of mine down the street had an NES that I played sometimes as a kid, but my first system was a Super Nintendo So - The original Legend of Zelda for the NES: The core gameplay loop that makes Zelda fun *is* present in this game. The building blocks are there. It is fun to just go have a romp around Hyrule (if they even called it Hyrule at that point). However, there isn't really much else to it. Everything feels random, you're given no direction whatsoever, it's literally just fumbling around in the dark until you hit something that gives you a new tool, and then you start the process all over again. The final dungeon is literally hidden behind a random rock. Not a single thing in the game tells you it's there. Using a guide, I was able to beat this game in like 5 hours or so. It's really short. If you weren't using one, it would take forever. I'm sure that was kind of the point. Today, I just finished the original Phantasy Star for Master System: Again, like Zelda, the core gameplay loop that would make games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy fun is there (Phantasy Star came out in America before either of the other ones), but again, the rest is a bit shit. The graphics for the time kick the dick off of FF and Dragon Quest, though. But, still, it's the same problem of like "how in the shit are you supposed to do anything in this game without a guide?" Phantasy Star has a liiiiiitle more guidance within the game than Zelda, but not by a whole lot, and rather than aimlessly wandering around 1 overworld, you have 3 whole overworlds to fumble around in until you figure shit out. And there's lots of backtracking to boot. The game plans on the player either buying a guide or just wandering around until they solve a puzzle that they didn't even know needed solving. And, once again, the final dungeon is hidden. Accessing the final dungeon requires finding a pot that you have to know not to get rid of, knowing to add it with another item, and then knowing to give the resulting item to one of your party members Phantasy Star, using a guide, I think took me about 15 hours to beat. If you're using a guide, both of these games can be fun to play. I'd recommend Zelda over Phantasy Star for the simple reason that Phantasy Star has a ridiculous random encounter rate and frequently exposes you to enemies that can wreck your shit. Saving frequently is a must. The Legend of Zelda is still fun to just fuck around in. Next up is the original Dragon Quest.
  12. My mom died of small-cell liver cancer about 3 days after she was diagnosed. Pretty sure that will never be curable. It's only been diagnosed in like 10 people ever because the illness goes from like "oh man, this is a particularly bad bout of the flu" to "oh shit I'm dead" so fast that no one knows what killed you, unless they autopsy you for some reason.
  13. I just have one credit card. I haven't used it recently because I maxed it out when I moved and haven't been able to pay it off. That's on the to-do list sometime soon.
  14. It's 92 here. I don't mind it too much. I like when it's hot outside at night. Termites like a motherfucker right now, though. They give no shits. Practically breathing them in.
  15. I think he has such an understated style that people don't think of him. Heat is legitimately one of the best films ever made, imo. He takes ideas the are patently absurd and grounds them in a way that is like.... almost boring. Not that his movies are boring, quite the opposite, it's more like he makes the absurd seem reasonable. Miami Vice should kind of Be a stupid movie. But it isn't. That's why Ali is his worst movie. Michael Mann was not put on this earth to make Oscar bait biopics. Come to think of it, imagine what it would be like if he directed the next F&F movie? I'd sacrifice a year or so of my life to see that happen.
  16. I unapologeticcally love Sweeney Todd. Honestly one of the best musical to film adaptations ever made, in my opinion. Granted I also haven't seen it in a long time and I'm a piece of shit now, so maybe I would think of it differently. Maybe that's next up on the streaming list
  17. You've joked about casual pedophilia that could be taken really bad out of context. People don't understand the culture of our Shower. ... Shit.
  18. I'm not a celebrity and I'm glad there was a board purge. I've probably said some awful things. Shit, I still do say some awful things.
  19. I firmly believe that as Gen-Z ages - that is, people who basically have everything they've ever said documented online forever since they were old enough to speak - there will be a push back on overreactions when someone says something stupid and insensitive. Glass houses and whatnot.
  20. You're right, but I also think that in most cases, maybe they shouldn't have been canceled forever? That's not to say every case is like that at all. I'm baffled why we still let Chris Brown be a thing, or why it took R Kelly two decades to face any consequences for what he did. I just also think like, someone said something terrible, rub their nose in it until they apologize, and then move the fuck on. People spend far too much mental energy on shit people they've never met have done. If they continue to exhibit that behavior, then sure, keep up the pressure. But if someone says "you're right, my bad," leave it the fuck alone.
  21. And mold. And termites. And wiring that hasn't been redone since 1975, so half of the power outlets don't work. Which is kind of a fire hazard, btw.
  22. Hmmmm... Build more dense housing to allow people to be able to walk to work/store/etc... I don't know, I don't buy it. Where would I put my car?
