  1. lol oh god. I remember WarZ's launch...hundreds of players on maps with NO zombies, and only flashlights and food, and just constant crashes. It got better after a while...but I regret buying early access. Those were the heady days of DayZ mod where this kind of battle-royal-style survival shooter seemed the future.
  2. I'm not saying Pineapple should be on all pizzas, but sometimes it's nice to have sweetness. You can get the same thing with teriyaki pizzas (and also have pineapple on those).
  3. I can't find another version of this video, so I am posting the twitter embed. Wade, feel free to remove if you need to, I really tried to find another version (and will replace if I can). It's a video of a Ukrainian raid in boats across the Dnipro to Nova Kakhovka, where they destroyed a military post and other targets, and then escaped:
  4. Can't wait for the 2024 GOP Convention where they burn a mountain of gear in the parking lot with EnergyStar logos on them.
  5. Pentagon Will Increase Artillery Production Sixfold for Ukraine - The New York Times WWW.NYTIMES.COM The Army’s top acquisition official says production of the 155-millimeter shells badly needed by Kyiv will rise to 90,000 a month in two years.
  6. Whoa WSJ News Exclusive | U.S. Leans Toward Providing Abrams Tanks to Ukraine WWW.WSJ.COM Deliveries would be part of deal to enable provision of German-built Leopards
  7. Obviously the future is theoretically better if there are 100 million humans compared to 10 billion, but getting from here to there is the challenge. Our entire global model is based on perpetual growth. It doesn't have to be that way, but I can't see the people who benefit the most (capital) ever voluntarily going along with the idea of a stable population.
  8. NRC Certifies First U.S. Small Modular Reactor Design WWW.ENERGY.GOV NuScale power module becomes the first SMR design certified by the NRC. Nice. My province intends to build these in 10-20 years to get us away from coal/natural gas. Most of Canada has plentiful hydro power, but the prairies don't, so nuclear is the best option moving forward (and is actually being championed by Conservatives).
  9. Bam Ukraine expects to get 100 Leopard 2 tanks from 12 countries, once Germany approves: Senior Ukrainian official - ABC News ABCNEWS.GO.COM Twelve countries have agreed to supply Ukraine with around 100 Leopard 2 tanks if the German government gives its consent, a senior Ukrainian official told ABC News. If Germany says no...I honestly hope they all agree to send them anyway in exchange for American backfill tanks. If Germany won't let them use their tanks in combat, then they shouldn't be buying from Germany.
  10. How I imagine the script-writing for a D&D movie works: Writer: "I grew up with this universe and love it. There are so many unique and interesting tales to tell." Studio: "Yeah we want some dragons in it. Oh, and some dungeons." Writer: "Well those are elements of the universe, but I was thinking it would be nice if we could—" Studio: "Oh, and big armies. And magic. Lots of quips, kids love quips." This definitely looks like the best D&D movie so far...but it also looks incredibly generic.
  11. UK minister admits 200 asylum-seeking children have gone missing | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Simon Murray says one girl and at least 13 under-16s among those missing after being placed in hotels run by Home Office I don't even know what to say.
  12. No I don't think that's the case as they aren't offering it to me, I would need to apply. Primary candidates would be me and a coworker, but I think I have a good shot. I definitely want it, as while my current job is great, this would open up other jobs in the future. Only downside is it would take me further away from scripting/programming, which has far more possibilities in the future. But I'm also 38 so I'd like to keep a nice stable job, lol.
  13. Exactly. Japan (on the surface) seems exactly the kind of place people would want to immigrate to—advanced, prosperous, safe. But they tend to give the impression they don't want anyone to move there. Honestly at this point only the west seems to be willing to continue to keep mass immigration going, and mainly just because we need it to keep funding capitalism. But there's a chance the incoming wave of fascism will curtail this and put western countries into the same spiral.
  14. Hmm. Might have the opportunity to take a manager position in my department in the next few months, and conflicted about it. Currently I work with our school division's databases and a few software systems. Not much programming, but a bit of scripting and integrations. The manager position would be for our service desk area (front-line tier 1 techs). I am conflicted because: Big jump in pay ($87k to $105k, with annual step raises after for seven years, + COL raises) Interesting responsibilities (our division is going 1:1 laptops with kids, new device management systems, etc) More responsibility (8 people report to the position) Right now I am (slowly) starting the process of getting people to think about unionization, which obviously would stop (from my own involvement, not in general) So, not entirely sure what to do. Have to look out for myself, but also would suck if I (the main driver of better working conditions) am not there to push. On the other hand, I can improve working conditions by actually just improving them as a manager, lol. For reference, our IT department is 20 people, 8 of which are in the service desk area, and we service about 1,400 staff and 12,000 students.
