Currently 34,000 feet in the air somewhere above Saskatchewan or Manitoba, but somehow still getting decent cell reception. Our takeoff was aborted (at full reverse thrust) and we had to go back to the gate. Pilot said that "the auto thrust system was showing irregular readings," but that we didn't need it to fly, so he had to fill out paperwork and we took off again, this time with manual thrust control. I had to frantically look up the model of the plane (because auto thrust failure is what has downed a few 737 Max planes), but it's a 737-800. So...just have to rely on the pilot knowing the right speeds! -
Videos of successful strikes at at least two airbase, and possibly a third. Five to six explosions all back to back. Seems that Ukraine threw an overwhelming number of drones, appearing to hit air defense first. If they managed to hit a number of strategic bombers at Engels...that could be huge. It's those bombers launching cruise missiles. Ukraine also unveiled its new home-made drone this week, which can travel 1000+ miles with a 300kg warhead. Likely also uses terrain navigation instead of gps so that it can't be jammed. It's actually crazy how poor the Russian air defense is.

Ukraine saying 6 aircraft destroyed, 8 damaged. Very successful. Also strikes on two other bases, including Engels (where strategic bombers are located), but no word yet on hits. Apparently the Ukrainian drones (at least some) had loudspeakers equipped, and were playing a German drinking song on approach (about being drunk for seven days).

For some reason I get more angry when someone is hurting animals than I do when they hurt people (except children). It's the cruelty of inflicting pain without the victim understanding what is happening, and why. I don't believe in capital or fatal punishment, but if I did, animal torturers would be at the top of the list.

I've seen videos of a guy in Australia with a Tesla who mounted a diesel generator to his trunk. He runs the generator into a level 2/3 charger, which then charges the battery as he drives. This lets him cross the desert he uses. It's...a very dumb decision in his case, as generators are not efficient burners. However, in principal you could do the same!

We're super fortunate in that she works from home 100% of the time, and my work is only a 10-15 minute drive. From April-October I am using my PHEV in EV mode probably 95% of the time, but unfortunately winter still sucks (mainly because EV range is reduced by about 50%). I feel like EVs are creeping closer to being suitable for northern climates, the biggest hurdle is the ability to very quickly charge when driving longer distances. There is no room for error when it's -40C and it's 7+ hours between cities on the highway. In a gas car you aren't going to run out of gas, and you can free heat for basically days if you idle it every few hours (if you end up in the ditch, etc). With an EV, running the heater alone can deplete a battery in hours, so much more dangerous if there are long stretches between chargers.

Yeah, looks great. We're a one-car household so EVs are a bit trickier (since our city is also cold 7+ months of the year, and very poor highway charging infrastructure). Our PHEV is perfect right now since it's 90% functionally an EV, but I'm hoping that by 2027-2028 (likely when we'll replace the Prius Prime) EVs will have advanced a tiny bit (mostly on price) and my city's infrastructure will be better!

Another example as to why nothing should ever be named after anyone. My school division is moving into a new HQ and there was a small push to name the building (and meeting rooms, etc) after former leaders, etc. Fortunately that was squashed, probably because we had to recently rename a school after it turned out the namesake was a sexual assaulter.

I care because the next leader of the US will likely result in actual (or not) deaths of many people, not only in the US, and the election will be decided by low-information voters like you. You keep making glib comments about political leaders who are basically evil, and then cover yourself later by saying you are just trolling. Trump and Musk are evil, evil men.

You go bananas over how Trump is a great speaker and Biden can barely talk, and this influences your opinions of both. Then you witness Biden actually speak (and not just Fox clips) and you are over the moon with how Biden is capable. And then you reverse again a week later. Now you are saying the only thing you dislike about Musk is how he speaks. You clearly have some issue with people's speaking ability, and this strongly influences what you think of them, to the point where you ignore all substance. You're the modern equivalent of someone voting for G.W. Bush over Kerry because you could imagine having a beer for the former, and not the latter. I'd hate to see you in charge of hiring someone with a disability, or really anything involving appearance/messaging.
